Swampland Conjectures and Their Implications for Cosmology and Particle Phenomenology

- Effective theories compatible with quantum gravity have their specific features. These features are formulated within the framework of the Swampland program, in the form of Swampland conjectures. In this dissertation, we first briefly review some of the Swampland conjectures, their motivations, and implications. We then elaborate on our research aimed at better understanding these conjectures, and using them to gain a deeper insight into the properties of the universe. We proposed a bottom-up supergravity framework with string-inspired elements where the Higgs expectation value and the cosmological constant are correlated. In this paper, we studied the Higgs dynamics in nilpotent supergravity with constrained superfields. In this framework, the Higgs expectation value varies with the vacuum energy, providing an example of the UV-IR correlation in bottom-up supergravity. In another work, we attempted to understand how the confinement scale of a Yang-Mills theory is related to the cosmological constant in a quantum gravity theory. We studied the gauge coupling dependence on the distance in the space of metric configurations and its implications for the confinement dynamics. Applying our results to the (anti-)de Sitter space shows that the confinement scale (typically) depends on the vacuum energy. We argued that, provided the distance dependence is sufficiently strong, the confinement scale will be larger than the Hubble scale. This work is a step towards investigating confinement behavior in quantum gravity and elucidating how the Festina Lente bound holds for Yang-Mills theories in string theory
