- Abstract:
- Having a large source and volume of data from various machinery and electronic devices, as well as the aggregation and diverse uses of this data for higher productivity, greater safety, increased reliability, and ultimately higher profits, is a necessity and demand in every industry. This is especially important in the maritime and shipping transportation sector. The solution to predicting and preventing wear, failure, and ultimately the breakdown of vessels is to have data that is continuously and automatically collected from the ship, with the capability for transmission and analysis. The goal of this project is to develop a cost-effective system for monitoring lightweight vessels, which, in addition to monitoring fuel consumption, navigational equipment, and machinery performance, can provide analyses to observe the vessel's performance history using sensors installed on the vessel. Initially, we will examine the existing navigational and machinary equipment and sensors on the vessel that can connect to and utilize their data. Next, we will discuss Internet of Things (IoT) technology and explain its benefits for ships. After that, we will review the development boards used for IoT, which will be selected based on the application and needs of the vessel. Then, we will analyze the format and type of data from the sensors collected from the ship’s equipment for use in IoT and how these can be received by the selected board. Subsequently, we will develop the hardware based on the laboratory equipment and the collected data, writing the code for receiving and transmitting data according to the chosen board. This code will then be further developed based on the type of use and data transmission in IoT. In the designed software, we will display the received data and analyze it to understand how the vessel has performed during the selected operational period. As a result, this project includes two components: hardware for data collection and transmission, and software for monitoring and analyzing data. By utilizing these two components through IoT technology and conducting laboratory tests and field tests on the vessel, a monitoring system for the performance of lightweight vessels has been developed and constructed
