Identification of Growth Path in Firms And It Required Organizational Capability

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasiri, Mohammad Nasir (Author) ; Modarres, Abdolhamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, the importance of growth and its relation with the survival of the organization is well-known by all managers. However, path selection in this area seems extremely vague and difficult. The present theoretical research, conducted to help further clarify growth dimension characteristics, aims at considering possible growth paths for firms as well as examining required capabilities for each path. In this research, firm growth was studied from three different angles: value chain, product system complexity and the market. A relatively comprehensive categorization was made of organizational capabilities namely technological, managerial and networking and it was examined within dynamic and...

    A Dynamic Workflow Management System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aghakasiri, Zahra (Author) ; Mirian Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Workflow management systems are responsible for modeling and execution of business processes that are widely used as workflow systems in different organizations. The main advantage of the workflow management systems is to improve the efficiency of organizations and control of the processes. However, one of the main drawbacks in the current workflow management systems is the way that they can deal with changes in the workflow systems. In the other words, their capability of dynamic handling of changes occurred. Since a workflow system may be affected by different changes while it is applied in an organization, handling these changes efficiently and during its execution through a dynamic...

A Framework For Developing Corporate Innovation Strategy; PATSA Group Case Study

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tajeddin, Hamed (Author) ; Kermanshah, Ali (Supervisor) ; Isaaei, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
There has been a lively debate between two major strategist groups in innovation strategy literature. The first, with Ansoff being the protagonist, pose a rational approach in describing a corporate innovation strategy formulation process while the other group, with Mintzburg as the protagonist, prescribe an incremental approach. It seems that in continuous change and uncertainty, rational approach can weakly predict the reality and one can claim that in such situations incremental approach is more effective than rational approach. Based on the review of literature and consequent classification, most of the strategies that are named as innovation strategies in literature use rational...

Dynamic Capabilities in Public Sector; Charectiristics and Function

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jahan Tigh Pak, Alireza (Author) ; Mashayekhi, Ali Naghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the concept of dynamic capabilities is extended to strategic management of public sector organizations. For this purpose, an extensive literature review is performed on strategic management of public and non-profit organizations to identify the main characteristics of them, and the essential differences of these organisations with private sector. Afterwards, the literature on dynamic capabilities is reviewed to distinguish their characteristics and operating process in private organizations. Following the results of the previous sections, i.e. “performance and characteristics of dynamic capabilities in private organizations” and “characteristics of public organizations”, some...

Dynamic based cost functions for TF/TA flights

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems ; Volume 48, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 44-63 ; 00189251 (ISSN) Malaek, S. M ; Kosari, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this work we present a systematic approach to incorporating the dynamic capabilities of an aircraft via suitable cost functions while planning for terrain following-terrain avoidance trajectories. We further show that use of nondimensional parameters related to the dynamics of an aircraft within the cost function provides a better understanding of how they could affect the resulting trajectories. Different case studies for arbitrary three-dimensional flights show that the current approach provides more realistic trajectories and so helps alleviate the design process of relevant controllers as well as tracking systems over the desired terrain. We further introduce two new parameters of...

Analysis of Customer Services Independance Strategy in Electricity Section in Iran, Based on Dynamic Capabilities

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdollahi, Ameneh (Author) ; Kermanshah, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Opportunities for creating value are shifting from managing tangible assets to managing knowledge based strategies that deploy on organizations' tangible assets: customer relationship, innovative products and services, high quality, and responsive operation processes, information technology and databases and employee capability skills and innovation" (Strategy Focused Organization, Norton, Kaplan; 1996). As organizations' value creating process shifts, learning has become one of the most important factors in value creation, and as a consequence dynamic capabilities creation. This research is concentrated on Electric Distribution Companies in Tehran region and studies knowledge management as...

A Framework for Identification of Dynamic Capabilities

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Hanieh (Author) ; Mashayekhi, Alinaghi (Supervisor) ; Arasti, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The strategic importance of Dynamic Capability (DC) has been a central theme in Strategic Management literature since Teece article released in 1997. But, relatively little attention has been given to the operationalization of the concept in organizations. In this paper we propose a framework based on Pavlo and Daneel researches to identify DC in an organization. Through a in-depth case study in dairy industry we explore the detail component of our framework. With a series of interviews with managers and experts of an Iranian dairy producing company, we first confirmed the framework as a whole and then we conclude that the process of DC introduced by Pavlo can have different interpretation...

Human Capital Development and Utilization Methodology in a Public Sector Organization: Dynamic Capability Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esmailzadeh Azari, Amir (Author) ; Kermanshah, Ali (Supervisor) ; Sanjari, Ahmad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It is proposed, in this research, a methodology for a public sector organization to integrate policy making in human capital development and utilization area. In this case the researcher used system dynamics method for modeling and analyzing the situation, to describe the mechanisms that produce the difficulties in the organization. The researcher mentioned the differences between public sector and profit organization, in designing the main part of the model and also the use of dynamic capability approach in designing human capital development parts of it. The model built in this research, describe the events before and after the 1990s separately, according to the different policy making...

A Study of Organizational Capabilities in Knowledge Based Companies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aliasgari, Vahid (Author) ; Kermanshah, Ali (Supervisor) ; Souzanchi Kashani, Ebrahim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Development of science and technology has been a main focus of Iranian policy makers in recent years. Knowledge based companies have been considered as a key player in this respect. However, Iranian policy making system is suffering from a lack of sophisticated understanding rooted in empirical evidences of critical factors influencing the performance of domestic knowledge based companies. This dissertation aims to provide an initial ground by studying the organizational capabilities which have influenced the success of such firms and comparing them with organizational capabilities which are mentioned in the related literature. For this purpose, four companies which are supposed to be...
