    Abstract
Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) batteries are considered as one of the promising candidates for next-generation Li batteries in near future. Although, these batteries are suffering from certain drawbacks such as rapid capacity fading during the charge and discharge process due to the dissolution of polysulfides. In this paper, Sulfur/metal oxide (TiO2 and SiO2) yolk-shell structures have been successfully synthesized and utilized to overcome this problem and improve the electrochemical performance of sulfur cahtode material. Prepared materials have been characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The results show...

    Abstract
This study demonstrates a novel, facile and one-pot approach to synthesize silica nanoparticles with silver at core and crust (SiNP-AgCC). A modified Stöber method was used to make SiNP-AgCC. A significant reduction in the size of SiO2 nanoparticles was seen, with 2–5 nm AgNPs being uniformly distributed on the surface and 10–20 nm AgNPs in the center. A typical mesoporous SiO2 particle (SiNP) produced using the Stöber method was transformed to nanoporous SiO2 by this modified Stöber method. Nanoporous SiO2 particles with silver in the center are advantageous for slow and consistent Ag+ release, which was confirmed by Ag+ ion release test. Antibacterial activities of the samples were tested...

    Abstract
The application of bioglass coatings on metallic implants provides link between bone and materials and prevents corrosion of metallic implants in body fluid. Therefore, in this research, 45S5 bioglass-silica coatings on 316L stainless steel were prepared by the sol-gel method and were characterized by different techniques. According to X-ray diffraction (XRD) results, by sintering 45S5 bioglass at 600 C for 5 h, coatings containing both amorphous phase and Na2Ca2Si3O9 crystalline phase were obtained. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results showed that coatings prepared via appropriate sol aging and substrate preparations are crack-free. Potentiodynamic polarization tests in simulated body...

    Abstract
Failure of concrete structures is usually accompanied by expansion of interior cracks due to stress concentration at the cracks tip. This phenomenon shows the importance of examination of the failure behavior of concrete structures. For this purpose, 4 types of concrete samples with different amounts of nano-SiO2 (0%, 0.2%, 0.5%, and 0.8%) were made to prepare some Central Straight-through Crack Brazilian Disk (CSCBD) specimens. The key focus of the investigation conducted was to investigate two assumptions. First, to check the pure mode I (tension) and pure mode II (shear) by compressing the standard discs with central cracks by an angle of 0° and 27° with respect to the loading axis;...

The fabricated transparent TiO2@Si:Fe:rGO composite showed excellent photoactivity and wettability, behaving well in self-cleaning applications. The addition of SiO2 improved the crystalline structure and surface hydroxylation of TiO2 nanoparticles. γ-Fe2O3 decreased the recombination rate of e-/h+ pairs, and significantly improved photocatalytic activity under visible light. Moreover, rGO sheets as excellent...

    Abstract
Wettability alteration in porous media is one of the mechanisms for enhancing oil recovery through injecting low-salinity water into carbonate reservoirs, in which active ions can remove the carboxylic oil component from the rock surface, altering the rock's wettability toward a water-wet condition. This study investigated the concomitant effects of low-salinity water and hydrophilic SiO2 nanoparticles on oil-wet dolomite rock. Results revealed that low-salinity water coupled with hydrophilic nano-SiO2 in oil-wet dolomite rock remarkably affected the wettability alteration of the rock, showing that the simultaneous presence of ions in water and hydrophilic nano-SiO2 led to considerable...

    Abstract
The high hydration potential of CaO and MgO phases restricted the application of Mag-Dol refractory composites. In this study, the impact of nano-silica (SiO2) addition on the physical, mechanical, thermo-mechanical as well as microstructure of Mag-Dol refractory composites is investigated. Mag-Dol compositions were prepared by using calcined dolomite and magnesite particles (micron, 0–1, 1–3, 3–5, and 5–8 mm), liquid resin, and 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 wt% nano SiO2 as additives. Specimens were heated up to 1650 °C for the 3 h soaking period. Fired specimens were characterized by physical (apparent porosity, bulk density, and hydration resistance), mechanical (cold crushing strength), and...

    Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the influences of combination of the two different SiO2 nanoparticles (15 nm and 80 nm) on compressive, flexural and tensile strength of ternary blended concrete. SiO2 nanoparticles with two different sizes of 15 and 80 nm have been used as a partial cement replacement by 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 wt.% in 16 different proportions of mixture followed by curing in lime solution for 7, 28 and 90 days. The results indicate that in all curing ages in lime solution specimens with 2.0% of 15 nm plus 1.5% of 80 nm cement replacement achieved higher mechanical properties. The continuous cement paste with the lowest delicate zones might be due to the fact of quick...

    Abstract
Buckling and post-buckling behaviors of geometrically imperfect annular sector plates made from nanoparticle reinforced composites have been investigated. Two types of nanoparticles are considered including graphene oxide powders (GOPs) and silicone oxide (SiO2). Nanoparticles are considered to have uniform and functionally graded distributions within the matrix and the material properties are derived using Halpin-Tsai procedure. Annular sector plate is formulated based upon thin shell theory considering geometric nonlinearity and imperfectness. After solving the governing equations via Galerkin’s technique, it is showed that the post-buckling curves of annular sector plates rely on the...
