  7. Abstract:
  8. The hydrocarbon reservoirs with temperature between critical temperature and cricondentherm are called gas condensate reservoirs. The hydrocarbon fluids of gas condensate reservoirs have retrograde behavior, i.e. when the pressure falls below the dewpoint, condensate liquid appears. This phenomenon usually occurs around the production wells, because pressure is typically the lowest in the near-well region. This so-called condensate blockage leads to reduced gas production because the condensate causes a decrease in gas relative permeability.
This phenomenon is difficult to capture in the standard compositional simulators, because well blocks are typically too large. The condensate blockage depends on the well completion strategies (open-hole or cased-hole), tubing, perforation, gravel pack and near-well geometry. The use of unstructured grid can solve these problems. In this thesis, a two-dimensional, constant porosity and constant permeability reservoir is used which a well is located at center of reservoir. The Unstructured PEBI grid models, which include high resolution in the well and near-well region, are constructed and used to simulate condensate systems. The PEBI grid has some advantages such as orthogonality and flexibility. Two strategies for well completion are performed: open-hole and cased-hole. As would be expected, open-hole completions are shown to provide greater productivity than cased-hole completions. Different values for porosity and absolute permeability are prescribed for the different wellbore components. In this thesis, the governing equations are control volume-based and solved implicitly. The fluid model is from the third SPE contest. The Peng-Robinson equation of state is used for phase equilibrium calculations. The saturation pressure calculation is performed using Tangent Plane algorithm which is a stable method for near critical point. The changes in fluid composition around well and effect of different well completions on condensate blockage are studied
