  7. Abstract:
  8. One of the different methods of heat transfer, is pool boiling process. In this method, the operating fluid starts to boil on a hot surface whose temperature is more than boiling point of the fluid. Based on difference between between surface temperature and fluid boiling point, amount of heat flux from hot surface to fluid and fluid behavior will be different. In recent years, many researchers have tried to improve the amount of heat transfer in the boiling process by using various methods such as nanoparticle addition or using magnetic field.Latent heat is thermal energy released or absorbed, by a body or a thermodynamic system, during a constant-temperature process, usually a first-order phase transition. Latent heat can be understood as heat energy in hidden form which is supplied or extracted to change the state of a substance without changing its temperature.A phase change material (PCM) is a substance with a high heat of fusion which, melting and solidifying at a certain temperature, is capable of storing and releasing large amounts of energy. Phase change materials are used to store or heat transfer in different applications such as solar air heaters, Storage tanks, heat exchangers, building materials and even the textile industries. In this project the effect of phase change materials on heat transfer in pool boiling process have been investigated experimentally. In this project, three kinds of paraffin with melting point of 62, 64 and 67 degrees have been used. Methanol has been chosen as operating fluid too. While using of paraffin with the melting point of 62, it was observed that the heat transfer enhances for the temperature difference of less than 15 between fluid and hot surface. But when the temperature difference is greater than 15, it was observed that heat transfer decreases. Optimum mass of paraffin used for this test is about 65 gr. Also, the effect of using paraffin with melting point of 64 and 67 on pool boiling heat transfer has been investigated. Experiments showed that phase change materials has the best performance while the PCM melting point is close to the fluid boiling temperature
