  7. Abstract:
  8. With the global population increase, the fossil fuel consumption rate is rising. Issues of energy aspects and environment pollution have received more attention than before. In this regard, internal combustion engines play an essential role. By improving the performance these, it is possible to reduce their specific fuel consumption. Also, with the development of various industries, their required power is increasing, and providing a new engine with higher power and better performance needs high investment. While, providing this requirement by improving the performance of the existing engine costs much less. Considering that internal combustion engines, especially diesel engines, are used in various industries in wide range, investigating this issue is extremely important. The main goal of this research is to increase the power of the turbocharged diesel engine with minor changes and less expenditure. The engine power increase has structural limitations. In this research by conducting turbocharger tests, its specifications were obtained and then these limitations have been investigated considering the mechanical and thermal stresses of engine components using the finite element method. For a case study, investigations were carried out on the OM355A engine. It is concluded that an average of 21.17% increase the engine brake power is available. Therefore, turbocharged diesel engines performance improvement is important issue from industrial and economic point of view
