  7. Abstract:
  8. The Low salinity water flooding is one of the important methods of secondary and tertiary oil production in which many expert petroleum-production engineering working on it in recent two decades. There are some basis mechanisms for low salinity method presented in the literatures including fine migrations, alkaline flooding, multicomponent ionic exchange, electrical double-layer expansion and pH-driven wettability alteration. The main approach is generating low salinity mechanism especially wettability alteration in OpenPNM framework. OpenPNM is a python base framework developed by Jeff Gostick for porous media modeling. OpenPNM has paved the way for extracting pore network models (PNM) from real rocks. These rocks have been imaged by CT scan techniques in micro resolution. Furthermore, OpenPNM has also aided this study by providing some ready-made algorithms, for example, algorithms like stokes phenomena, percolation and advection-diffusion has been modified and used in this study. Subsequently, some models have been created and completed in PNM and their geometry. Finding porosity and permeability, plotting pore and throat distribution 2 have also helped to more investigate the pore network models before main simulations. At first, oil invades the network including high salinity water to simulate drainage, then, the water with different salinities invades the network to simulate imbibition process. Wettability has been modeled by contact angle which has a linear relationship to water salinity. By these simulations, capillary curves have been obtained which helped to plot relative permeability curves. To conclude, the results show low salinity water has positive effect on capillary and relative permeability curves. Imbibition curves of low salinity water are on top of high salinity one that means in the same pressure, less oil volume will exist in the systems. Relative permeability of oil will improve a little if end points saturation data would be corrected by using some experiment data. These results are compatible with many sandstone rock experiments existing in the literature
