    Abstract
The effect of the nucleating agent masterbatch carrier resin on the nonisothermal crystallization of a pipe-grade polypropylene block copolymer was investigated at three different cooling rates using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Bis(3,4-dimethylibenzylidene) sorbitol (DMDBS), a well-known, third-generation sorbitol derivative, was used as a nucleating agent in this study. Crystallization kinetic parameters obtained from DSC cooling curves showed that incorporation of a nucleating agent by means of a masterbatch increased the crystallization rate by approximately two times compared to that of the sample with the same concentration of nucleating agent without the use of a...

    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
A novel multi stimuli-responsive silica nanocomposite with a core-shell structure is synthesized using reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The SiO2 nanoparticles are chemically modified via 3-(trimethoxylsilyl) propyl methacrylate (MPS) which they are used in the core of nanocomposite. The macro-RAFT agent is prepared by RAFT polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), spirooxazine acryloyl monomer (SOM), and 2-(dodecylthiocarbonothioylthio)-2-methylpropionic acid (DDMAT as a RAFT agent). Finally, the smart nanocomposite is prepared by reaction between the macro-RAFT agent and 2-(Dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) as a monomer. SOM as a...

    Abstract
Magnetic micelle nanoparticles with thermoresponsive behavior were designed for thermo-triggered paclitaxel delivery. For this purpose, thermoresponsive triblock copolymer poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide)-b-polycaprolactone-b-poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) was prepared. The magnetic micelle was formed by self-assembly of triblock copolymer on the magnetite which was coated by oleic acid. The size of the magnetic micelle was between 30–40 nm reported by transmission electron microscopy. Also, dynamic light scattering indicated the hydrodynamic diameter was thermal dependent. Moreover, the drug release profile showed thermo-triggered release of paclitaxel. Thus, the smart nanocarrier has potential...

    Abstract
Cellulose nanowhiskers (CNWs) prepared via TEMPO mediated oxidation are used as biodegradable filler in an epoxy matrix. Since CNWs are hydrophilic and epoxy is hydrophobic, amphiphilic block copolymer surfactants are employed to improve the interactions between the filler and the matrix. The surfactants used are Pluronics, a family of triblock copolymers containing two poly(ethylene oxide) blocks and one poly(propylene oxide) block. In this study, Pluronic L61 and L121 with molecular weight of 2000 and 4400 g/mol and hydrophilic to lipophilic balance of 3 and 1 respectively, are used and their effect on the dispersion of CNWs in epoxy is discussed. The hydrophilic tails of Pluronics...

    Abstract
Different grades of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were dispersed in poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMEG) without any solvent in the presence of a block copolymer dispersing agent by ultrasonication at a temperature well above the melting point of the PTMEG. The state of CNT dispersion at different length scales was evaluated by using optical microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, rheological measurements, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and sedimentation tests. Optical microscopy can be used to characterize the state of dispersion and CNT network formation on a micrometer scale, whereas UV-Vis provides useful information about the dispersion of individual CNTs at...

    Springer New York LLC  2015
    Abstract
A new facile strategy for preparation of mesoporous anatase-TiO2 films by a combination of sol–gel and evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) processes aided by tri-block Pluronic F127 is reported. Two major parameters, sol preparation and EISA processing parameters, are identified for preparation of mesoporous crack-free films with desired thickness. The mesoporous crack-free films with thickness of 650 nm can be obtained with low water: precursor molar ratio (e.g., 2.5:1) under aging in 10 % relative humidity for 72 h at the low temperature of 5 °C. Although template: precursor molar ratio and annealing temperature show little influence on preparation of crack-free films the optimum...

    Abstract
A series of water-soluble ABA triblock copolymers consisting of a polyethylene glycol central block joined to two blocks of six different homopolymers have been synthesized via simple solvent-free and ecofriendly routes and characterized by FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopy. Dispersing and slump-retaining abilities of the copolymers in cement slurries were evaluated by mini-slump spread method. Rheological measurements of samples with the best performance were carried out using a rate-controlled coaxial cylinder viscometer. The test results indicate that the dispersing power of the copolymers in cement pastes is strongly affected by the structure and degree of polymerization of the monomers

    , Article European Physical Journal B ; Volume 86, Issue 4 , 2013 ; 14346028 (ISSN) Askari, A. A ; Rahimi, L ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Pepe, G. P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this paper, the well-known effective medium approximation (EMA) and coupled dipole approximation (CDA) methods are employed to study the optical properties of a metal nanoparticle-block copolymer (MNP-BCP) nanocomposite. This approach is applied to study a system consisting of small gold spherical nanoparticles randomly distributed in the cylindrical micelles of a di-BCP. At first, the EMA method is used to obtain the effective dielectric function of a semi-metallic cylinder. Then, the extinction spectrum of the hexagonal 2D-array of semi-metallic cylinders is obtained by the CDA method. This procedure makes it possible to study simultaneously both the electromagnetic extinction of MNPs...

    Abstract
Iron oxide nanoparticles, γ-Fe2O3NP, were deposited onto the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and CNT/γ-Fe2O3NP hybrid nanomaterials were obtained. Then linear-dendritic ABA type block copolymers consisting of polyethylene glycol as B block and poly(citric acid) as A block, PCA-PEG-PCA, were synthesized and cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (CDDP) - a platinum-based chemotherapy drug) was conjugated with their carboxyl functional groups and CDDP/PCA-PEG-PCA anticancer prodrugs were prepared. Noncovalent interactions between CDDP/PCA-PEG-PCA anticancer prodrugs and CNT/γ-Fe2O3NP hybrid nanomaterials led to CDDP/PCA-PEG-PCA/CNT/γ-Fe2O3NP drug delivery systems. There are several...

    Abstract
Linear-dendritic triblock copolymers of linear poly(ethylene glycol) and hyperbranched poly(citric acid) (PCA-PEG-PCA) were used as the reducing and capping agents to encapsulate gold and silver nanoparticles (AuNPs and AgNPs). PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in four different molecular weights were synthesized using 2, 5, 10 and 20 citric acid/PEG molar ratios and were called A 1, A 2, A 3 and A 4, respectively. Nanoparticles were encapsulated simultaneously during the preparation process. AuNPs were simply synthesized and encapsulated by addition a boiling aqueous solution of HAuCl 4 to aqueous solutions of A 1, A 2, A 3 and A 4. In the case of silver, an aqueous solution of AgNO 3 was reduced...

    Abstract
A novel injectable in situ gelling thermosensitive chitosan-block-poly(ethylene glycol) formulation was synthesized for drug delivery applications. Block copolymerization of monomethoxy-poly(ethylene glycol) onto chitosan using potassium persulfate as an initiator was carried under a nitrogen atmosphere in aqueous solution. The effects of potassium persulfate and poly(ethylene glycol) concentrations, reaction time and reaction temperature on block polymerization were studied by determining the yield of reaction (%Y), polymerization efficiency (%E) and add-on percentage (%Add-on). Keeping the other conditions constant, the optimum reaction conditions were found to be initiator = 0.01 M,...

    Abstract
A novel thermosensitive hydrogel was synthesized by block copolymerization of monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) macromere (PEG) onto chitosan backbone, using potassium per sulfate as a free radical initiator. This block copolymer exhibits a thermoreversible transition from an injectable solution at low temperature to a gel at body temperature. Synthesized copolymers were characterized using FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and DSC techniques. Solubility test was performed to compare water and organo-solubility of chitosan before and after copolymerization. Sol-gel transition behavior was investigated using the vial inversion method and viscosity measurements. The gelation behavior makes the...

Poly(citric acid)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) copolymers-new biocompatible hybrid materials for nanomedicine

    , Article Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology, and Medicine ; Volume 6, Issue 4 , Aug , 2010 , Pages 556-562 ; 15499634 (ISSN) Tavakoli Naeini, A ; Adeli, M ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Linear-dendritic ABA triblock copolymers containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as B block and hyperbranched poly(citric acid) (PCA) as A blocks were synthesized through polycondensation. The molecular self-assembly of synthesized PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water led to formation of nanoparticles and fibers in different sizes and shapes depending on the time and size of PCA blocks. Ten days after dissolving PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers in water, the size of fibers had reached several millimeters. Mixing a water solution of fluorescein as a small guest molecule and PCA-PEG-PCA copolymers led to the encapsulation of fluorescein by products of molecular self-assembly. To investigate their potential...

    Abstract
Polycaprolactone-polylactide block copolymers (PCL-block-PLA) were grafted onto filled multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) successfully. In this synthesis, MWCNTs were opened and functionalized, and then they were filled by silver nanoparticles. The filled MWCNT were used as macroinitiator for ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone and L-lactide. Then the end hydroxyl functional groups of MWCNT-graft-PCL or MWCNT-graft-PLA were used as initiator for ring opening polymerization of lactide and ε-caprolactone and MWCNT-graft-PCL-block-PLA or MWCNT-graft-PLA-block-PCL were obtained, respectively. Length of grafted copolymer chains onto the MWCNT was controlled using CNT/monomer ratio....

    , Article Journal of Nanoparticle Research ; Volume 20, Issue 10 , 2018 ; 13880764 (ISSN) Pourjavadi, A ; Dastanpour, L ; Mazaheri Tehrani, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research, we report a magnetic pH-sensitive polymeric micelle designed for hydrophobic drug carrier in cancer treatment. This carrier was prepared by self-assembly of biodegradable triblock copolymer PEG-PCL-PEG coated on oleate-modified magnetic nanoparticles. The amphiphilic triblock copolymer was synthesized via reaction between the aldehyde group from the hydrophilic component with the amine group of the hydrophobic component. The resulting Schiff base linkage was sensitive to pH. The structure of nanocarrier was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR). Morphology and size of the magnetic...
