Seismic Behavior of Concentric Steel Braced Frames In Near Fault Ground Motion

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahdizadeh Sari, Alireza (Author) ; Golafshani, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of braced frames has become more popular in seismic design of buildings because of the simplicity in design and construction. The first event that occurs in the earthquake for a concentrically brace frame (CBF), is the buckling of the strut. The inelastic behavior of CBF systems is dominated by brace buckling, yielding and the post buckling behavior. The Inelastic performance of the brace is nonsymmetrical, because of the difference in the tensile and compressive strength of the brace and the deterioration in the resistance after buckling. so we have too complexity in modeling the inelastic performance of brace members. Also the subject of the near fault ground motion and design of...

Seismic Performance Assessment of Concentrically Braced Frames

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yasha, Saman (Author) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis investigates the performance of concentrically braced frames through numerical simulation approaches. During a moderate to severe earthquake, the bracing members and their connections are expected to undergo significant inelastic deformations into the post-buckling range. Recently, provisions for special concentrically braced frames (SCBFs) were developed to exhibit stable and ductile behavior in the event of a major earthquake. Special Concentrically Braced Frames (SCBFs) are distinguished from Ordinary Braced Frames in that they possess improved post-buckling capacity. Performance based evaluation of SCBF system as well as ordinary concentrically braced frame (OCBF) system...

Evaluation of Material Properties of Short Carbon Nanotube-Based Composites Using Nonlocal ElasticityTheory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amelirad, Omid (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Classical theory of elasticity, which is founded upon results of mechanical experiments on the large scale materials, has reasonable results in predicting mechanical properties. The basic idea in this theory is that stress at a point of the material is only a function of the local strain and it is independent of the nonlocal strains. Therefore, the size of the material does not play any role in analyzing mechanical behavior of materials using this theory. However, results from experiments and atomic simulations have shown that in nano scale materials, such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their composites, mechanical properties are strongly dependent on the size parameters of these materials....

Modeling the Market Based on Monopolistic Competition of Trade: Case Study of Auto Market

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Emamipour, Sajad (Author) ; Abedini, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Concentration brings a twofold result to the market. From one side, it reduces the competition and then the number of varieties in the market, which discourages consumption; from another side, however, it reduces the price of goods due to increasing returns to scale and so encourages consumption. This controversial role of concentration raises the question that which degree of concentration might be, say, optimum for the market. Based on the Krugman approach, this study makes a relation between the number of firms, export volume, marginal and average fixed cost of production. We show that when number of firms reduces in the market, export volume could increase because of a reduction in...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarif Honarvar, Ali (Author) ; Fatemi, Farshad (Supervisor) ; Nili, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study aimed at using industrial organization approach for banks and the use of models of determining the market structure and the level of competition in Iran’s banking industry. Models of market structure determination are divided into two categories: structural models that are the same as calculation of concentration indices using market share and non-structural models that are the same as revenue-cost nature of economic enterprises. Structural models have been established based on two theories of structure-conduct-performance (SCP) and efficient structure (ES). The difference between these two perspectives depends on the good or bad nature of concentration in banking services market....

The most proper membrane (17.9 % polymer and 1,4-dioxane /acetone ratio 1.89) showed water flux of 9.3 L/m2.hr (LMH) and RSF of 0.536 mol NaCl/m2.hr. Using mesh in the membrane structure, different...

Simulation of Urine Concentrating Mechanism in Rat Kidney Inner Medulla

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sanatkhani, Soroush (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Physicians use charts that are prepared by experiments on animals or humans to prescribe drug dosage for patients. This method requires much more time by the Ministry of Health to approve new drugs to be used in health-care centers. Furthermore،we have no sight on how a specific drug is going to be diffuse in our body. In order to predict the distribution of a drug or any minerals in the kidney we need to model it. The first step would be modeling the important species that influence the urine concentrating mechanism. Due to the complications in modeling that mechanism especially in the inner medulla zone، we hadn’t solid information regarding that area. It is about half a century that...

Investigating Starin Growth in Concentric Braces and Specify the Start Time of Failure in Section

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hayatbini, Kourosh (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this Thesis, the behaviour of stell brace was studied in finite element models. In this section, a comparison between the results of these models and the results of experimental models which were done in past years, was carried out. It shows that these result is in good agreement with each other, Moreover it has been found that the primary cause of failure in the sample is local bucking and then change in the geometry of sample which will be followed by strain jumping in next cycles which shows the importance of local buckling due to the proximity of this event to strain jumps and can be accepted as braces limit state design. Finally, we try to predict the time of failure of samples with...

Effect of Post Buckling Rupture on the Deformation Capacity of Concentrate Braces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saji, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study the behavior of steel bracings under cyclic loading, is modeled with finite element method. Analysis have shown that after local buckling in plastic mid-span position, due to the severe geometry change, the strain grows rapidly, The sharp growth of plastic strains is entitled as strain rises. Geometry change created will cause the collapse brace speeding up. In fact, the main local buckling can be used as a determinative factor in performance base design for steel braces. So the thesis has been investigated, using the parameters fracture life to quantify local buckling and fracture. Also with using the CVGM model, the fracture of the brace could be predicted. The analytical...

The Effects of Local Buckling on Behavior of Steel Braces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Darbandsari, Pooria (Author) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Steel Concentrically Braced Frames are common lateral load resisting frames. Poor design of this system can lead it to premature failure of braces. This failure may be due to non-elastic buckling of brace members or their connections. Design Codes divide Concentrically Braced frames into two groups: Ordinary Concentrically Braced Frames and Special Concentrically Braced Frames and for each, specific limitations have been determined for width to thickness ration and slenderness. Many of these limitation have been obtained on the basis of experimental tests. In this thesis steel braces behavior under cyclic loading is studied. For parametric investigation, Finite Element Method is used. Abaqus...
