Cobalt Based Spinel Coating on Stainless Steel by Sol-Gel Dip Coating Technique for Interconnects

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jalilvand, Golareh (Author) ; Faghihi Sani, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Because of the high operating temperature, interconnect surface tends to be oxidized and Cr2O3 oxide layer will be created on the surface. This phenomenon is undesirable due to decreasing electrical conductivity, so a preservative coating is needed to improve the interconnect properties. In this paper, a dense spinel thin film was successfully synthesized on a ferritic stainless steel (type 430) substrate by a sol-gel dip coating method. This coating improved chemical stability, oxidation behavior of the substrate and decreased cathode poisoning. The Nickel-Cobalt spinel was coated on the substrate by sol-gel coating process. First, during a hydrolyze process, a stable sol was made up from...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mousa Mirabad, Homayoun (Author) ; Faghihi Sani, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Solid oxide fuel cells are used to convert solid-state energy to direct electrical current by electrochemistry mixing a gas fuel and an oxidant in an oxide electrolyte. One of the most interesting aspects of this field for the researchers is the reaction between the metal interconnect and the glass sealant. In the current research, deposition of the YSZ coating onto the metal interconnect in order to impede the reaction with glass sealant and prohibition of its oxidation in oxidizing/reducing environment in high temperature, was mainly investigated. Effect of applying YSZ Thin layer in the intersection of Crofer steel and glass sealant on strength and chemical durability of these two...

    Abstract
TiO2/multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWNT) heterojunction arrays were synthesized and immobilized on Si(0 0 1) substrate as photocatalysts for inactivation of Escherichia coli bacteria. The vertically aligned MWNT arrays were grown on ∼5 nm Ni thin film deposited on the Si by using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at 650 °C. Then, the MWNTs were coated by TiO2 using dip-coating sol-gel method. Post annealing of the TiO2/MWNTs at 400 °C resulted in crystallization of the TiO2 coating and formation of Ti-C and Ti-O-C carbonaceous bonds at the heterojunction. The visible light-induced photoinactivation of the bacteria increased from MWNTs to TiO2 to TiO2/MWNTs, in which the bacteria could...

    Abstract
The low erosion resistance of titanium and its alloys has prevented their widespread application as joint implants. In addition, one essential requirement for the implants to bond with the living bone is the formation of a bone-like apatite on their surfaces in the host body. To enhance the erosion resistance of the surface, a diffused layer of TiB2 was formed at 1000uC on the commercial pure titanium. Hydroxyapatite was then coated on the boronised titanium by means of dip coating in a sol-gel solution. In order to confirm the biocompatibility of the specimens, they were soaked in a simulated body fluid for several days. The surface morphology of the specimens after exposure was studied by...

    Abstract
Uniform nanostructure anatase films were coated on 316L stainless steel by the sol-gel dip coating method. Sols with different values of pH were applied. The corrosion protective behavior of coated samples was investigated by electrochemical measurements in 0.5 molar NaCl solutions on samples placed under UV illumination and dark condition using Tafel curves. It was found that in addition to acting as a physical barrier, anatase thin films are more protective under UV illumination due to photocathodic protection. Neutral sols give better protection due to formation of more uniform and less defective coatings
