    Experimental and numerical study of the gas-gas separation efficiency in a Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube

    Abstract
    A brass vortextube is used to carry out a series of experiments. The main objective of the present research is to investigate the separation performances of a vortex tube (VT) for a hydrocarbon mixture. Examination is also applied to study the effects of nozzle intakes number and cold fraction on the gas species separation at specific inlet pressure 236.37 kPa in a VT with two gas mixtures (LPG as a hydrocarbon mixture and LPG-N2). A two-dimensional computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model simulation of a VT is presented.     Paraplegic users of mechanical walking orthoses, e.g. advanced reciprocating gait orthosis (ARGO), often face high energy expenditure and extreme upper body loading during locomotion. We studied the effect of kinematical pattern on the mechanical performance of paraplegic locomotion, in search for an improved gait pattern that leads to lower muscular efforts.     This thesis analyzes the behavior of inflation in the Iranian economy by introducing a micro-founded model of monetary policy. The model predicts a direct relationship between inflation and oil export revenues in the oil dependent economy of Iran. This theory driven claim is verified empirically, and test results tend to confirm a meaningful relationship between inflation and Oil export data in Iran. Based on results attained from the micro-founded model, an augmented SVAR model is proposed for estimating underlying inflation in the Iranian economy.     In this thesis, we quantify the extent to which the self-employed systematically under-report their income in Iran households survey by using expenditure based method. The method applied is an improvement of Pissarides and Weber (1989) method which is based on the Engel curve, describing the relationship between incomes and expenditures.     The major objective of this study is to provide an analytical tool to identify the role of investment on innovation in the process of new technologies development. To achieve this goal, a model of knowledge flow is developed and the effects of national and international knowledge spillovers are investigated. Results show that when knowledge spillovers are modelled in the Nordic countries, the required investment on domestic energy R&D decreases and the cumulative knowledge increases to 10.7 billion USD by 2030.
