    Design of a Phased Array Receiver for 5G Applications

    Abstract
    Next-generation wireless communication requires phased-array systems to ensure Gb/s data communication. This work demonstrates a four-element phased array receiver based on N-path filters for the 5G-FR1 frequency band. The behaviour of the circuit including non-idealities and effects due to mismatch in the paths is modeled and verified via simulations. As the time-variant nature of the N-path filter introduces multiple frequency translations, third harmonic selection of the switching frequency rather than the fundamental helps to reduce the input frequency of the multiphase clock generator by a factor of three.     Abstract
    In this paper, we evaluate and compare the multiuser performance of the Fast Frequency-Hopping (FFH) and the MultiCarrier slow Frequency-Hopping (MC-FH) systems employing non-coherent detection for both uncoded and coded schemes in AWGN and slowly frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels, based on Gaussian distribution assumption for the decision variable. Our numerical resulte indicate that with non-coherent detection, both systems show the same performance. However, the MC-FH system can be easily implemented using FFT algorithm.     Abstract
    A highly efficient two-dimensional meta-reflect-array manipulating the phase and amplitude of far-infrared electromagnetic wave is proposed. The reflect array consists of patterned graphene nano-disks resides on a subwavelenght thick optical cavity to enhance the interaction of electromagnetic wave. It is shown that the reflected wave from each unit cell can almost cover the 2π range phase shift by changing the radius of the graphene nano-disks while at the same time maximizes its amplitude. Proposing a transmission line model for the proposed structure, we realize a meta lens as a flat optics functionality. © 2016 IEEE

    Abstract
    In this paper, we evaluate and compare the multiuser performance of the multicarrier frequency-hopping (MCFH) CDMA system using coherent and non-coherent detections in AWGN and slowly frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels in a downlink application. For fair comparison, we use BFSK modulation for both cases. Our numerical results indicate that in both AWGN and fading channels, the coherent detection sub-stantially outperforms the non-coherent detection. Furthermore, it has been realized that the performance enhancement due to the diversity order is only observable for coherent detection

    Abstract
    Dual active bridge isolated bidirectional DC converter (DAB-IBDC) has a poor efficiency at light loads and non-unity voltage conversion ratio. In this paper the current stress of the converter is analyzed and the effect of maximum phase shift ratio and leakage inductance on the current stress of the converter is investigated. In order to increase the efficiency of the converter and reduce the current stress, the current stress optimization has been done and the design procedure is presented. Simulation results are used to validate the results of the theoretical analysis. © 2017 IEEE

    Abstract
    In this article, we present a semiclassical approach for modeling of electro-optic (EO) effect. We calculate phase retardation between x and y polarizations of optical electric field when a transverse external electric field is applied. Our results are well agreed with experimental measurements. Moreover, we show when wavelength of optical signal decreases, the phase retardation increases. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Abstract
    Usually the digital phase shifters are used to steer the beam of a phased array antenna, and the accuracy of beam steering and other properties of the radiation pattern is dependent on the number of bits of the phase shifter and its resolution. In this paper the results of simulations, accomplished using a number of phase feeding methods in order to reduce the phase quantization error effects are presented and three new methods are introduced and compared with the previous works.     Abstract
    In this paper, we consider an iterative multiuser receiver for the coded MC-FH system, first introduced in [4], in the presence of partial-band interference. The structure of the receiver consists of two principal parts: multiuser soft input soft output (SISO) detector and SISO channel decoder. When the channel is under the attack of jamming, for optimum detection we propose to add a jamming estimator to multiuser SISO detector. So, the new SISO multiuser detector consists of multiuser likelihood calculator (MULC) and iterative jamming estimator (JE).     The exact symbol and bit error probabilities of linearly modulated signals in frequency non-selective Rician fading channels with Lth diversity branches are derived, where coherent detection with maximum ratio combining (MRC) is used at the receiver.     We derive some bounds on the Optimum Asymptotic Multiuser Efficiency (OAME) of randomly spread CDMA as extensions of the result by Tse and Verdú. To this end, random Gaussian and random binary antipodal spreading are considered. Furthermore, the input signal is assumed to be Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK). It is shown that in a CDMA system with K-user and N chips when K and N → 8 and the loading factor, K over N, grows logarithmically with K, the OAME converges to 1 almost surely under some condition. Random Gaussian and random binary antipodal spreading are considered. We obtain the optimum asymptotic multiuser efficiency of a K-user system with spreading gain N when K and N → ∞ and the loading factor, (K/N) , grows logarithmically with K under some conditions.     OFDM is a multicarrier modulation scheme with high bandwidth efficiency and robustness to multipath environment used in high data rate transmission. However, a drawback of this system is the large Peak-to-Average-Power Ratio (PAR) of the transmit signal which makes its straightforward implementation quite costly. PAR in an OFDM based system can be reduced significantly by PTS method for which data recovery requires side information (SI) about the phases used at transmitter.     Abstract
    A fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based delay line (or phase shifter) has been developed for microwave over fiber and phased array antenna (PAA) applications. The scheme uses band edge time delay of tunable fiber gratings to provide a continuously controllable microwave time delay or phase shift.     A body insonified by a constant (time-varying) intensity sound field is known to experience a steady (oscillatory) force that is called the steady-state (dynamic) acoustic radiation force. Using the classical resonance scattering theorem (RST) which suggests the scattered field as a superposition of a resonance field and a background (non-resonance) component, we show that the radiation force acting on a cylindrical shell may be synthesized as a composition of three components: background part, resonance part and their interaction.     Rotating field gradients (RFGs), generated by simultaneously applying sine- and cosine-modulated gradient waveforms along two perpendicular directions, provide an alternative diffusion sensitization mechanism for magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy.     In this paper, a novel reduced switch cascaded transformer multilevel inverter is proposed. In this structure, a new structure is replaced with conventional H-bridge inverter. It consists of four high frequency switches, two line frequency switches, and two transformers which can be assembled in one core with a specific winding connection.     In this paper, a new fully analog technique is proposed by means of which the adverse effects of frequency dependent gain/phase errors in quadrature transmitters are suppressed. Two separate phase and gain mismatch cancellation loops are implemented which search for the minimum side-band component. A new sign detection method is also introduced which makes sure the direction of the loop is correct.
