Simulation of Gas-Liquid Flow Patterns in Vertical, Horizontal and Inclined Pipes and Assessment of Empirical Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khajezadeh, Vahid (Author) ; Fatemi, Mobeen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Multiphase flows are commonly encountered in oil and gas industries. Flow fields in production operations are often complex and include multiphase flows of gas and liquid. The prediction of pressure gradients, liquid holdup and flow patterns occurring during the simultaneous flow of gas and liquid in pipes and wellbores is necessary in designing production facilities. Previously, due to their complex nature, these flow patterns have been mostly investigated only experimentally and empirical correlations based on the experimental data. From another point of view, it is almost impossible to experimentally realize all the flowing conditions for each of the flowing patterns. Nowadays, computer...

The Simultaneous Effect of Nano Ferric Oxide and a Liquid Additive on Viscosity and Power Transmission of Drilling Cuttings to the Surface on the Water Base Mud Drilling to Optimization of These Properties

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Gheimasi, Mostafa (Author) ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor) ; Ramazani, Ahmad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Transportation of cuttings and efficiency of the hole cleaning has been one of the major concerns of stake holders in the oil and gas industry. This is because a successful drilling program is a key to a productive and profitable oil and gas business. A successful drilling program is as a result of an efficiently cleaned hole. On the other hand, a poor or inefficient hole cleaning implies accumulation of cuttings or formation of cuttings bed in the well. This often leads to decreased rate of penetration, increased cost of drilling, fractured formation, increased plastic viscosity of mud as a result of grinding of cuttings and stuck pipe. Hole cleaning is effected primarily with a drilling...

Structural Health Monitoring of Oil Pipeline Using Guided Lamb Waves

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamei, Reza (Author) ; Zabihollah, Abolghasem (Supervisor) ; Selk Ghafari, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Pipeline systems are one of the cheapest ways for distribution and transportation of petroleum and natural gas. The testing of pipes used in the petroleum industry is necessary to avoid unplanned process interruptions, environmental pollution and provide good safety. One of the methods which is used for pipeline inspection is the ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) technique. The use of conventional NDT techniques such as ultrasonic thickness gauging is a slow inspection process, which becomes very expensive when full inspection is needed. Ultrasonic guided waves provide an appropriate fast screening technique. These waves stress the whole pipe wall and propagate along the length of the...

    Abstract
The Engine of a vehicle is an energy conversion system, where specific chemical energy is converted in to heat in a combustion chamber. In order to reduce thermal tension in the cylandr, part of heat is removed with the help of circulating water and it is dissipated in the radiator. As a result, part of input energy is wasted in to the atmosphere through cooling system in each cycle of engine. Heat recovery in the cooling system and preheating combustion air of fuel could enhance energy efficiency and it may contribute to fuel economy. Heat recovery may be realized with the help of heat pipes. Heat pipes may be utilized for heat recovery and preheating fuel or air whichare inlet to the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vesaghati Javan, Mohsen (Author) ; Dehghani Firouzabadi, Rohollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project, vibration and stability condition of a pipe conveying flow has been studied for use in firefighting plane. The Plane is a multi-rotor that carries the pipe to a certain height and it does the washing work there, bassed on the fluid flow from the nozzle embedded in the end of the pipe. Due to the flexibility of the pipe in this application, structure modeling is based on cable without bending stiffness. The Galerkin method is used to solve equations by considering the assumed mode shape for structure. At first, by analyzing free vibrations, different boundary conditions were considered for the pipe and the natural frequencies and natural shape modes were extracted in...
