    Abstract
A search is presented for a heavy W′ boson resonance decaying to a B or T vector-like quark and a t or a b quark, respectively. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collisions collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Both decay channels result in a signature with a t quark, a Higgs or Z boson, and a b quark, each produced with a significant Lorentz boost. The all-hadronic decays of the Higgs or Z boson and of the t quark are selected using jet substructure techniques to reduce standard model backgrounds, resulting in a distinct three-jet W′ boson decay signature. No significant...

    Abstract
Natural gas hydrate, a crystalline solid existing under high-pressure and low-temperature conditions, has been regarded as a potential alternative energy resource. It is globally widespread and occurs mainly inside the pores of deepwater sediments and sediments under permafrost area. Hydrate production via well depressurization is deemed well-suited to existing technology, in which the pore pressure is lowered, the natural gas hydrate is dissociated into water and gas, and the water and gas are produced from well. This method triggers multiphysics processes such as fluid flow, heat transfer, energy adsorption, chemical reaction and sediment deformation, all of which are dependent on the...

    Abstract
Chitosan is a natural polymer with acceptable biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical stability; hence, it has been widely appraised for drug and gene delivery applications. However, there has been no comprehensive assessment to tailor-make chitosan cross-linkers of various types and functionalities as well as complex chitosan-based semi- and full-interpenetrating networks for drug delivery systems (DDSs). Herein, various fabrication methods developed for chitosan hydrogels are deliberated, including chitosan crosslinking with and without diverse cross-linkers. Tripolyphosphate, genipin and multi-functional aldehydes, carboxylic acids, and epoxides are common cross-linkers used in...

    , Article Engineering Failure Analysis ; Volume 140 , 2022 ; 13506307 (ISSN) Nadjafi, M ; Gholami, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
One of the most important goals of any organization for a product that goes into the design or manufacturing process is to improve its reliability. Reliability growth is defined as improving a product's criteria (input parameters) during operation using changes in design or production. This paper presents a hardware-centric approach for the reliability growth of systems following normal distribution based on the Non-Homogeneous Poisson Process (NHPP). To reach this goal, the reliability growth modeling equations for the NHPP with the assumption of the normal distribution for failure data are extracted and obtained. Then, the maximum likelihood estimation technique based on the...

Staying in or stepping out? Growth strategies of second-generation immigrant entrepreneurs

    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Second generation immigrant entrepreneurs (SGIEs) in developed economies have contributed to the emergence of new areas of business activity, especially in information technology, business services, and creative industries. An understanding of their growth strategies can shed light on the role of individual immigrants in the founding of potentially global firms competing with large multinational enterprises. Based on eleven case studies of SGIEs of Indian origin in the UK, our findings reveal that SGIEs are heterogeneous in their growth strategies contingent on their a) founding or succession context, and b) use of social ties. Founder SGIEs combining non-co-ethnic ties with non-family...

    Abstract
Since the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, detailed studies of its properties have been ongoing. Besides its mass, its width—related to its lifetime—is an important parameter. One way to determine this quantity is to measure its off-shell production, where the Higgs boson mass is far away from its nominal value, and relating it to its on-shell production, where the mass is close to the nominal value. Here we report evidence for such off-shell contributions to the production cross-section of two Z bosons with data from the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Abstract
In the present contribution, visible-near infrared hyperspectral imaging (Vis-NIR-HSI) combined with a novel chemometric approach based on mean-filed independent component analysis (MF-ICA) followed by multivariate classification techniques is proposed for saffron authentication and adulteration detection. First, MF-ICA was used to exploit pure spatial and spectral profiles of the components. Then, principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were used to find patterns of authentic samples based on their distribution maps. Then, detection of five common plant-derived adulterants of saffron including safflower, saffron style, calendula, rubia and turmeric were...

    Abstract
The rational design of composite catalysts is critically essential for electrochemical water splitting. Here, we report on a novel hierarchical composite that comprises NiFeSe2 nanoparticles and NiCo2O4 nanoflakes supported on nickel foam (NF) as an efficient electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The conjunction of the NiFeSe2 nanoparticles and NiCo2O4 nanoflakes introduces a new synergistic effect for the HER, resulting in an improved NiCo2O4 catalyst. The as-prepared NiFeSe2/NiCo2O4/NF electrode exhibited an enhanced HER activity, with a low overpotential of 83 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, a low Tafel slope of 45 mV dec−1, and an excellent long-term...

    Abstract
The growth of process industries has escalated the probability of loss containment scenarios of hazardous materials that can be tackled via process safety schemes. For preliminary design stage, the inherent scheme is more promising to generate sustainable process designs. For this purpose, various process routes are typically compared to recognize the safer one via numerous indexing methods to eliminate routes with hazardous materials. However, these indices lack in accommodating the equipment characteristics and the underutilization of process and chemical characteristics. Specifically for chemical characteristics, the toxicity aspect has not been engaged for process route selection in...

A sustainable approach to replace bleed stream in electrical refining of copper

    Abstract
Despite extensive studies on electrorefining to remove impurities from copper production units, bleeding electrolytes is the most popular method for controlling impurities due to low operating costs. A controlled cooled-reheat cycle was used to remove impurities in industrial electrolytes of Khatoon Abad copper company. Phase identification and physical study were done by the XRD, SEM, TEM, and FTIR techniques. The results confirmed the possibility of the removal of 23 wt% Ni, 26 wt% Sb, 2.4 wt% As and convention of 6 wt% of As5+ to As3+ at cooled-reheat cycle. © 2022 The Author(s)

Optimization of multilateral well trajectories using pattern search and genetic algorithms

    Abstract
Multilateral well is a promising technology in developing oil reservoirs. Because this technology may increase the production rate per well and reduce the costs of field development, it is rapidly replacing the old methods. This study uses a three-dimensional line-source model with direct search methods, including pattern search and genetic algorithms to optimize the well trajectories. This method was applied to several cases, with different forms of wells and reservoirs. In all cases, significant improvement was observed in the production rate. Furthermore, the production enhancement using the optimized well trajectories which have curved-paths is compared to the case with linear well...
