, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rafat, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Mostafavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to authorities and statistical figures, Iran is seriously facing insufficient housing crisis. Studies show that through an increase of 1.5 million units in annual housing construction capacity, this crisis will be overcome in 5 years. Although successful execution of such a big project is not unprecedented in the world, housing experts believe fulfillment of this plan through traditional method of construction in the country is impossible. The country's capacity of industrialized construction which is known as the remedy, is only limited to 2-3% of total construction. Thus development of this approach through financial, legal, ... supports of investment in prefabrication...

Treatment of Oilfield Produced Water with Dissolved Air Precipitation/ Solvent Sublation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bayati, Fatemeh (Author) ; Shayegan, Jalaloddin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Because of production of large volumes of Produces Water during oil exploration, it is necessary to purify this water for reuse or discharging to environment. Thus, finding a suitable method for removing contaminations seems necessary. In the present study, removal of soluble and dispersed organic contaminants from produced water by Dissolved Air Precipitation/ Solvent Sublation has been studied. Combination of floatation by dissolved air and extraction with solvent has been used for removal of organic compounds in order to study simultaneous effect of both methods on removal efficiency. Samples used in the experiments were tested in two groups: the first group was synthesized samples of...

Security-Constraint Unit Commitment Using Classical And Hybrid Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdollahi, Amir (Author) ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Rashidi-Nejad, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fast growing load in power systems associated with a large gap between heavy load and light load periods, generation scheduling and unit commitment (UC) problem has become a crucial issue in Scheduling time horizon. In a vertically integrated power system, unit commitment determines when to start-up or shut-down units and how to dispatch online generators over a given scheduling horizon in order to minimize the operating costs. Therefore main objective of this thesis is selected as unit commitment considering ramp rate, emission and line flow constraints. In this thesis four main works has been done: at first generation scheduling considering next hour is done which may yield to increase...

Economic Batch Quantity (EBQ) for a Single-Stage Production System with Rework and Scrapping

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmani, Vasim (Author) ; Haji, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The classical economic batch quantity (EBQ) model assumes that all produced items have a perfect quality. But in real-life production systems, generation of defective items is inevitable. A portion of these defective items is considered to be scrap , while the other is assumed to be reworkable and reworking them can reduce costs and increase productivity. In this thesis we have studied the economic batch quantity for a single stage production system with rework and scrapping . We want to satisfy the customer demand and minimize total costs of the system like set up costs , production costs , rework costs , holding costs , shortage costs and scrapping costs . In the first chapter of this...

Impact of Free Trade on Technological Heterogeneity across Countries: The Case of OECD European Members

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Mohsen (Author) ; Abedini, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Although technological specialization has been recognized as a stimulating factor of international trade (Ricardian theory), new approaches emphasize the endogeneity of technological heterogeneity across countries. Following them, we proceed to examine the effect of free trade on technological differences among 20 OECD members during 1996-2008. We first use the model of Eaton and Kortum (2002) to obtain an annual estimate of technological heterogeneity within the OECD group. We then analyze the behavior of this index facing international trade statistics in the same period. The results show that the OECD countries have been experienced a technological convergence, thanks to a boost in the...

Investigation of Removing Idiosyncratic Price Distortions On Manufacturing TFP in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Motavasseli, Ali (Author) ; Nili, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Government intervention in markets may go beyond the market regulation. Interventions may cause some idiosyncratic price distortions. It means the relative prices of factors to become different among firms. Therefore, micro conditions for firms will be changed. These will result in misallocation of factor production between firms and change in manufacturing TFP. According to data from about 14000 medium and small industrial firms in Iran, removing misallocation of production factors (capital and energy) and output idiosyncratic distortions between industrial firms would result in 115 percent increase in manufacturing TFP.

Estimation of Wind turbine’s Produced Energy in Different Regions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafarian, Mohammad (Author) ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important problems in using wind energy is the estimation of wind energy potential of a region with acceptable accuracy. To use wind energy and convert it to electrical energy it is necessary to study the economical aspects of wind farm installation, and to choose an appropriate wind turbine to be installed in a region. To do such a study and to choose approperiate wind turbine, annual energy output of different wind turbines should be estimated in that region. The porpuse of this thesis is to develop new methods to estimate annual energy production of a wind turbine by using some of the parameters of wind speed pattern of a region such as wind speed average, wind speed...

Dynamic Pricing of Perishable Products Considering the Advertisement

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aslani, Shirin (Author) ; Modarres, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Seasonal Products are a group of products with a limited life time. If seasonal products are not sold during a specified time, they have to be sold at a salvage price which is close to zero. Although one can find many studies in the literature regarding pricing of this type of products in order to maximize the profit, none of them have considered the simultaneous effect of both advertising and pricing. The objective of this paper is to introduce an integrated model of dynamic pricing and advertising for seasonal products. The advertisement is classified into two main categories; to advertise a specific type of product and to advertise the brand of the company. To obtain the mentioned goal,...

    History Matching using Streamline Simulation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shojaei, Hasan (Author) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Supervisor) ; Badakhshan, Amir (Supervisor) ; Kamali, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Management decisions, Enhanced Oil Recovery, and reservoir development plans in petroleum industries are based on predictions by reservoir simulation. Due to uncertainties in model parameters or engineering assumptions, the simulation results are not accurate, while they are correct. One remedy is to match simulation results with engineering measurements, typically pressure and flow rate, by adjusting model parameters. In Reservoir Engineering literature, this is called History Matching and is an optimization problem. Common methods of history matching are based on finite difference simulation, and therefore have a very low speed. In addition, these methods usually ignore Geostatistical...

Tailoring Software Testing Techiques for Product Line Engineering

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezvan, Abolfazl (Author) ; Mirian-Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In industry it is usual to develop a family of similar software instead of a single one. Software product-line (SPL) engineering or family-based software engineering is an approach that tries to minimize needed effort and time-to-market and maximize quality of manufactured products through strategic planning for maximizing reuse among members of the family. On the other hand it is known that testing software is an indivisible part of software development process which requires considerable time and effort. With large number of products created from an SPL, it is obvious that testing should be conducted in such a way that needed effort does not maintain a linear relationship with number of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi, Rahman (Author) ; Abbaspour, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The growing requirements for renewable energy production lead to the development of a new series of systems, including wave and tidal energy conversion systems. Due to their sensitivity and the impact of the aggressive marine environment, the selection of the most adequate location for these systems is a major and very important task. Several factors, such as technological limitations, environmental conditions, administrative and logistic conditions, have to be taken into account in order to support the decision for best location. The aim of the present study is to provide an Atlas of IRAN Offshore Renewable Energy Resources (hereafter called ‘the Atlas’) to map out wave and tidal resources...

A Process Model for Software Product line Engineering Based on the Model Driven Architecture

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Forghani, Hadi (Author) ; Mirian Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Software development process is a base ground for all software activities and ensures all aspects of the software. No quality is guaranteed without a definite process. Model-Driven Software Development process proposes an industrial method for software companies to produce the required software through model(s) and tools. On the other hand, Software Product Line imposes a set of frameworks and principles. As a result a tangible decrement of development time and cost along with an increment of quality is achieved. Mixing both processes creates a stronger industrial process in order to decrease the development time and cost. In this thesis, through a survey on both of the processes and related...

Optimal Batch Production for a Single Machine System with Rework

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji, Babak (Author) ; Haji, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research attempts to develop the optimal solution for an inventory problem consisting of a single machine which produces items some of which may be defective. We assume that no shortages are allowed and all defective items are to be reworked. Setup cost for rework and waiting time of defectives are considered. This research consists of two different parts. In the first part we consider two different policies where in the first policy in each cycle after the regular production the machine is setup for the rework of defectives of the same cycle. In the second policy several cycles constitute a period. All the defectives produced in the period are reworked in the last cycle of that period....
