For synthesis of this complex, first, the intermediate compound 2-hydroxy benzohydrazide was synthesized from hydrazine and methyl salicylate and condensed with 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde to give the Schiff base ligand (H2NBD). Then from reaction of ligand and ammonium vanadate in DMF in 65 ̊C, the NH4[VO2(NBD)] was prepared. This complex was fully characterized by UV, NMR and IR spectroscopies and it’s application as catalyst in sulfoxidation...

Design of Amniotic Membrane-based Hydrogel for Cardiac Tissue Engineering Application

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gholami, Bahar (Author) ; Yaghmaei, Sohila (Supervisor) ; Saadatmand, Maryam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mammalian cardiac tissue lacks the ability to effectively self-regenerate following severe damage. The application of external therapeutic agents with strong mechanical properties is needed to restore its function. Even though conventional therapies have several challenges and limitations, injectable hydrogels, with minimally invasive, can significantly improve cardiac tissue regeneration. Extracellular matrices are the most appropriate biomaterials for synthesizing cardiac scaffolds. The human amniotic membrane obtained from the amniotic sac is a readily available, abundant, and inexpensive candidate that has been successfully utilized for the clinical treatment of cardiac diseases....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azizi, Zahra (Author) ; Mohammadi Boghaei, Davar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study involved the synthesis, structural characterization and studies of gadolinium (III) hexaaza macrocyclic Schiff base complexes containing pyridine head and their decomposition in aqueous solution. There are many applications of lanthanide(III) macrocyclic complexes as medicine and in the biological systems, as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) agents, and etc. These applications require that the Gd(III) complexes be resistant to gadolinium ion release under physiological conditions.
We considered planer macrocyclic ligands as a means to obtain highly stable complexes of Gd(III). Symmetric [2+2] Schiff base macrocyclic derived from 2,6-diacetylpyridine with amines would exhibit...

    Abstract
Salicylaldehyde-amino acid Schiff base complexes are used as non-enzymatic models for the metal-pyridoxal (Vitamin B6) amino acid Schiff base systems which are key intermediates in many metabolic reactions of amino acids catalyzed by enzymes which require pyridoxal as a cofactor (transamination, decarboxylation, α and β elimination, racemization, etc.). In addition, complexes of amino acid Schiff bases are considered to constitute new kinds of potential anticancer, antitumor, antiradical and antibacterial reagents. On the other hand nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), has become a powerful tool for clinical diagnostics thanks to the development of a new class of pharmaceuticals...

    Abstract
Schiff bases are used as prevalent ligands in coordination chemistry and are prepared easily. Their application as mild inhibitory agents for prevention of various steel’s corrosion in acidic solution has been proved. When their structure is altered, multi-purpose application for them is found. This property has led to a motive for research and study. In this study, electronic properties of a group of Schiff bases are investigated. The goal of this study is using quantum mechanics (QM) as a tool for specifying electronic properties of some of these bases. With respect to QM calculation which is done by density functional theory (DFT), their properties as inhibitory agents are studied. First,...

    Abstract
The geometry structures of hexa-coordinated [NiLX]X complexes (X = Cl -, Br-, I-) {L = 8,9,18,19-tetrahydro-7H,17H- dibenzo[f,o] [1,5,9,13]dioxadiaza cyclohexadecine-8,18-diol} are optimized by density functional theory (DFT) using B3LYP/LANL2DZ. The calculated geometric parameters are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental values. Calculation results about these complexes show that dipole moment decreases, and the energy levels of HOMOs descend from iodo-complex to chloro-complex. The energy levels of HOMOs descend gently from iodo-complex to chloro-complex, while the energy levels of LUMOs in the present complexes are almost similar; therefore the energy gapes between HOMOs...

    Abstract
In this study, a new inorganic-organic nano fibrous membrane (PTSNFM) has been fabricated via immobilization of carbazol-based Schiff base (S) into a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) - tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) polymeric support using the electrospinning method. PTSNFM has been used as an optode to detect and remove of mercury (II) ions. The characterization of PTSNFM has been fully carried out using different methods including FE-SEM, TEM, AFM, viscosity, surface tension and conductivity. FE-SEM and FT-IR analysis demonstrated the binding of Hg (II) to the PTSNFM via chelating of Hg (II) to the Schiff base ligand. PTSNFM can detect Hg (II) in the dynamic range of 0.020–0.50 ng/mL, with the LOD...

    Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of methimazole, as an antithyroid agent, is investigated on the surface of a carbon-paste electrode modified with a newly synthesized Schiff base complex of cobalt. The prepared modified electrode showed an efficient catalytic role in the electrochemical oxidation of methimazole, leading to remarkable decrease in oxidation overpotential and enhancement of the kinetics of the electrode reaction. The mechanism of the electrocatalytic process on the surface of the modified electrode is analyzed by obtaining the cyclic voltammograms in various potential sweep rates and pHs of the buffer solutions. The differential pulse voltammetry is applied as a very sensitive...

    , Article Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry ; Volume 11, Issue 8 , 2007 , Pages 1133-1138 ; 14328488 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Amiri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The electrochemical oxidation of thiocytosine on the surface of carbon-paste electrode modified with Schiff base (salophen derivatives) complexes of cobalt is studied. The effect of the substituents in the structure of salophen on the catalytic property of the modified electrode is investigated by using cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry. Cobalt (II)-5-nitrosalophen, because of its electrophilic functional groups, leads to a considerable enhancement in the catalytic activity, sensitivity (peak current), and a marked increase in the anodic potential of the modified electrode. The differential pulse voltammetry is applied as a very sensitive method for the detection of thiocytosine. The...

    Abstract
We have explored the suitability of an O,N,N–donor Schiff base (H2SB) for obtaining dinuclear complexes with heavy metal ions such as Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, and Co2+ (borderline acids) as well as Pd2+ and Cd2+ (soft acids). Spectroscopic studies demonstrated that the complexation of H2SB and Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Pd2+, and Cd2+ occurred at a 1:1 stoichiometry. We have found two square planar centers with Pd-N-Pd angles of 93.08(11)◦ and a Pd–Pd distance of 3.0102(4) Å in Pd2(SB)2·Me2CO. This Pd–Pd distance is 30% shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii, which is in accordance with a strong palladophilic interaction. Fluorescence studies on H2SB-M2+ interaction showed that H2SB can...
