, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahourai, Fereidoun (Author) ; Tabandeh, Mahmoud (Supervisor) ; Jahed, Mehran (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research presents an efficient thermal-aware routing protocol based on Shortest Hop Routing algorithms for implanted bi medical sensor network. Implanted biomedical sensor networks provide a major application of sensor networks in the near future. These in-vivo sensor nodes collect desired biometric data and communicate the data wirelessly to a base-station through a multi-hop network. They generate the heat due to wireless communication and circuitry power consumption. A high temperature of the in-vivo nodes for a prolonged period might damage the surrounding tissues. Most of the protocols for sensor networks don’t take the thermal issue as a factor in the routing of packets. In its...

An Effective Data Aggregation Mechanism in Wireless Sensor Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Marvi, Mona (Author) ; Jahangir, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are tiny devices with limited computation and power supply. For such devices, data transmission is a very energy-consuming operation. Data aggregation eliminates redundancy and minimizes the number of transmissions in order to save energy. This research explores the efficiency of data aggregation by focusing on different aspects of the problem such as energy efficiency, latency and accuracy. To achieve this goal, we first investigate data aggregation efficiency with constraint on delay, which can be compatible with other important system properties such as energy consumption and accuracy. By simulation, we will show that, depending on the application, we can...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseiny Khamseh Motlagh, Atena (Author) ; Seifipour, Navid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Coverage rate is a critical criterion in all of communication networks. In this regard, there are many different methods for distribution of network particles duo to attain the most efficient region of coverage. This emerges from the limited ability of each networks particle both in range of communicate and power consumption. In this thesis an evolutionary method is introduced to how Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) particles can be dispensed to have more reliable coverage rate. Using both static and mobile sensor packages to cover the desired area and used a cost function, coverage rate, the authors tried to maximize it to have an excellent performance of network. Then proposed algorithm is...

These issues may include topology control, routing, coverage, security, and data management. In this thesis, we focus our attention on the coverage problem. Firstly, we study the best current solutions in the literature. We choose one of them as the basis of our work and study it thoroughly as the core model of our coverage model....

Distributed Cross-layer Optimization in Wireless Sensor Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirghasemi, Hamed (Author) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, our aim was to assess the resource allocation problem in wireless sensor netowroks and to optimize network utility and lifetime. To achieve these aims, it is nesseccary to solve resource allocation problem through optimization methods. Since the central methods need a central node to manage resource allocation, they can not be implemented in sensor networks because the nodes neighbors to this central node drain energy very quickly. Also, since central methods require transmission of all information about network topology to this central node, every change in network topology result in transmission of new network topology informations and therefore, overload for frequent...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nikounia, Hossein (Author) ; Jahangir, AmirHossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless sensor networks have many applications, vary in size, and are deployed in a wide variety of areas. They are often deployed in potentially adverse or even hostile environment so security issues are of much concern in these networks. Key management is a fundamental security issue in sensor networks. In this thesis, we are mainly focusing on key establishment and group rekeying schemes aspects of key management. Due to limited resources of sensor networks, key pre-distribution schemes are currently viewed as the most promising solution. Key predistribution in sensor networks refers to the problem of distributing secret keys among sensor nodes prior to deployment. Recently, many key...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini Pour, Ahmad Reza (Author) ; Jahangir, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are composed of many independent spatially-distributed sensor nodes where communicate their information acquired from environment to shape a uniform view of their managed scope. Using WSNs in places which human can hardly attend uninterruptedly, as well as constraints such as low power consumption, low price, small size, and limited radio range, are the biggest challenges for researchers and WSN designers. Supplying security is yet another common challenge of using these networks. The beginning chapters of this dissertation introduce the most important security mechanisms in WSNs, that is, key management and cryptography. Since each application has its own...

Improving Packet Scheduling in Multpath Video Delivery Over Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rastegar Lari, Amir (Author) ; Akbari, Behzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent advances in WSN have led to next generation of it for multimedia transmission which is WMSN. WMSN has several applications like environmental monitoring, advance health care delivery and etc. However, providing QoS requirements of transmitting video data like delay, bandwidth and packet loss with minimum distortion at perceived video quality over WMSN with resource constraints is a challenging problem. Using multipath routing protocol for video communication can increase bandwidth and decrease delay over WMSN. Moreover, all video packets have not the same effect on video distortion. We propose a scheduling mechanism which classifies packets according to their types and contents and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azar, Zahra (Author) ; Manzuri, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless networks with the shared media require Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol that provides contention resolution mechanism. The design of MAC protocol is a challenging issue because of limited energy source and high propagation delay in UnderWater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UWASNs). The most important goal of the MAC design for underwater sensor networks is to resolve data packet collision efficiently with respect to energy consumption. So, selection of MAC protocol is an important task because it has significant impact on the system efficiency. A suitable MAC protocol must consider some factors such as fairness, energy consumption, latency and throughput based on various...

Fabrication and Characterization of Methanol and Hydrogen Sensors Based on Porous Silicon

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Razi Astaraie, Fatemeh (Author) ; Iraji Zad, Azam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
We studied porous silicon as a resistive gas sensor at room temperature. Meso- and macro- porous silicon were formed by electrochemical etching of single crystal silicon wafers in different conditions. For Meso porous Si we used p+-type wafers as substrate and for macro porous Si formation n- and p-type wafers were used. The mechanism of methanol vapor sensing was studied by Scanning tunneling spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that methanol increases partial oxidation of surface and causes increase of defect density. These defects play important role to trap electrons and create “acceptor surface states”. These acceptor surface states in p+-type...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahbazi, Moloud (Author) ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the basic characteristics of Wireless Sensor Networks is their resource limitations. As a result, it is essential to try to decrease costs in such networks. These limitations are more critical in transmitting multimedia data with larger data units. In addition, when transmitting real-time multimedia data, delay is an important factor to consider. According to these limitations, Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks are congestion prone. In this thesis, a transport layer protocol has been proposed. This protocol consists of three three steps in handling congestion. First, it detects congestion according to the queue length in the node. If the lsength is greater than a minimum threshold,...

Voltammetric Determination of Tryptophan and 5-Hydroxytryptophan Using Graphite Electrode Modified with a Thin Film of Graphite/Diamond Nano-mixture And Determination of omeprazole Using Graphite Electrode

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bayat, Maryam (Author) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
At the first part of this thesis, a pyrolitic graphite electrode (PGE) modified with graphite/nanodiamond film (GND) was applied as a sensitive electrochemical sensor for determination and study of electrochemical behavior of tryptophan (Trp) and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) in aqueous solutions. The results showed that GND caused a remarkable increase in the peak currents so the GND/PGE electrode surface was more sensitive to the concentration of Trp and 5-HTP than the PGE surface. The determination of Trp and 5-HTP were investigated by stripping voltammetry. Experimental parameters such as scan rate, pH, accumulation conditions and amount of the modifier used on the PGE surface were...

    Abstract
Sensor Observation Service (SOS) which is defined by Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement group is a Web service specification in order to standardize the way sensors and sensor data are discovered and accessed on the Sensor Web. Multiple instances of this service can be implemented around the world, providing huge amount of data every moment. Each of these services operates in specific domain of knowledge (thematic), spatial and temporal dimensions. One way to reveal the underlying data over all of them is to provide an architecture for data integration to allow the user to query sensor data without the knowledge of the infrastructure components. In this research, a novel...

Analysis of Key Distribution Schemes in Wireless Sensor Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shafieinejad, Masoumeh (Author) ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are comprised of small sensor nodes with very limitedstorage, power and computational capabilities. The nodes in wireless sensor networks should be able to communicate with each other in order to accumulate information and to relay it to a base station in a secure manner. Since this communication often takes place in a hostile environment, encryption and/or authentication should be used. This requires the establishment of secure keys between the sensor nodes in the WSN. The constraints of such a lightweight distributed computing environment lend itself to the use of symmetric cryptography to provide security services. The lack of central infrastructure after...
