, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Maleki, Sina (Author) ; Durali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Advancements in solar powered systems bring about the possibility for today’s transportation systems to be operated and driven by such a clean and renewable source of energy. The challenging point of this combination is to draw high power levels from such a low power density source of energy. As a result, employing an efficient power storage and management system becomes inventible. The subjects of this research are to design a grid connected system and evaluate its performance and feasibility in a real application (Tehran- Mehrshahr surface train – Tehran 5th Metro Line). The task includes sixteen pairs of DC transmission lines which are powered by CIGS solar module technology and four...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zamani Pourghohroud, Behzad (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The power supply system is one of the most important and complex systems. Various factors affect this system. Climate change affects different parts of the power supply system. In this study, the effect of climate change on electricity demand and electricity supply system has been investigated by considering the limited water resources. The amount of water withdrawal and GHG emissions in different scenarios. Scenarios are considered in such a way that assess the probable rising prices of fuels and water, and carbon taxes at three levels. Also, scenarios of rising water prices have been considered to evaluate the effect of this policy alone. It is worth noting that power plants are modeled...

Application of PSA Methods in the Reliability Analysis of EPSS of Busherhr NPP in case of Station Black Out

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khorrami, Vahid (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
LOOP accident is one of the most important accidents in NPPS and it leads to loss of power supply of the RCP pumps which are the main pumps of primary circuit. Subsequently trip of the rector occurs. In safety analysis, concerning worst conditions, assumes that after a small period of time, main generator of plant stops working and loss of AC power supply of all power plant loads including safety systems ocures. To control of this accident, it’s necessary to startup and load backup power supply system (EDGs) for at least one safety channels, if not, the accident moves forwards and becomes S.B.O accident which is more important accident that ends to core damage because of stops working of all...

    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
Energy Return on Investment (EROI) is an indicator of how efficient is an energy supply system. In the present study, the conventional approach of EROI assessment is extended to include the equivalent energy investment needed for offsetting the life cycle environmental impacts. Moreover, the issue of allocation of the invested energy among different by-products is addressed. The EROI of multiple products has been specified using different benchmarks of price, energy content, exergy content, and exergy costs. The application of the concept is demonstrated through a case study of an Iranian oil production unit. The overall conventional and environmentally-extended EROI values of the produced...

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 46, Issue 61 , 2021 , Pages 31174-31190 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Mostafaeipour, A ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. S ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. J ; Almutairi, K ; Taher, R ; Issakhov, A ; Techato, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
The energy supply system of Uzbekistan is not well positioned to meet the rapidly rising domestic energy demand of this country. Uzbekistan's current energy supply system is outdated and has very low diversity, as most of its energy comes from natural gas. In addition to producing immense amounts of greenhouse gas and environmental pollution, this situation is untenable considering the eventual depletion of fossil fuel reserves of this country. Uzbekistan's renewable energy sector is highly undeveloped, a situation that can be attributed to the lack of coherent policies for the advancement of renewable power and the low price of natural gas. However, this country has significant untapped...

    Abstract
Iranian water authority has recently announced that one of the effective ways to avoid unprecedented high water consumption in Iran's agriculture sector is to increase water price. This paper analyzes the feasibility of this policy by using a hydro-economic approach with the aim to consider the role of water pricing in agricultural water management. Such an analysis was conducted through comparing price of water consumed for producing selected agricultural crops (i.e. wheat, sugar beets, onion, tomato, barley, potato, corn, alfalfa hay and watermelon) in a case study on two provinces (East Azarbaijan and West Azarbaijan) in Iran to that in the state of California (CA) in the USA. According...

Stochastic modeling of the energy supply system with uncertain fuel price - A case of emerging technologies for distributed power generation

    , Article Applied Energy ; Volume 93 , 2012 , Pages 668-674 ; 03062619 (ISSN) Mirkhani, S ; Saboohi, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
A deterministic energy supply model with bottom-up structure has limited capability in handling the uncertainties. To enhance the applicability of such a model in an uncertain environment two main issues have been investigated in the present paper. First, a binomial lattice is generated based on the stochastic nature of the source of uncertainty. Second, an energy system model (ESM) has been reformulated as a multistage stochastic problem. The result of the application of the modified energy model encompasses all uncertain outcomes together and enables optimal timing of capacity expansion. The performance of the model has been demonstrated with the help of a case study. The case study has...

Assessment of an optimized combination of Iranian power plants by environmental costs impact of carbon tax and fossil fuel price on longterm development of iranian electricity supply system

    , Article Journal of Environmental Studies ; Vol. 40, issue. 2 , 2014 , p. 415-430 Manzoor, D ; Farmad, M ; Aryanpur, V ; Shafiei, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Despite the abundant renewable energy sources, the Iranian energy sector relies almost entirely on fossil fuel energy resources. Power sector is dominant source of CO2 emissions and responsible for about 35% of total CO2 emissions in the country. Additionally, long-term electricity demand of Iran is expected to grow quickly, which in turn requires extensive investment to meet the growing demand over the next decades. On the other hand, increasing domestic fossil fuel consumption had been a serious challenge due to high costs of oil and gas. Current study pays particular attention to the possible penetration rates of renewable electricity technologies and their implications for fossil fuel...

    Abstract
A detection technique for extraction of total harmonics, individual harmonics, and reactive current components is introduced and its performance is evaluated. The detection algorithm is then adopted as part of the control system of a single-phase active power filter (APF) to provide the required signals for harmonic filtering and reactive power compensation. Performance of the overall system is evaluated based on digital time-domain simulation studies. The APF control system including the signal processing algorithms are implemented in Matlab/Simulink Fixed-Point Blockset to accommodate bit-length limitation which is a crucial factor in digital implementation. The power system including the...
