, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dehghan, Arman (Author) ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we study the dependence structure between the Tehran Stock Exchange and over-the-counter market, as the two main Iranian capital market institutions. Several constant and time-varying conditional Copula functions are used to model this dependence structure from October 2009 to August 2014. It is shown that, compared to constant conditional copulas, time-varying conditional copulas, provide a better performance. Analyzing the conditional tail dependence of these indices shows an asymmetric dependence structure. Also, investigating the dynamic conditional correlation and conditional tail dependence, using time-varying conditional copulas, reveals large variations and an...

To answer this question, I estimate the impact of the increase in the share of people in counties that access asphalt roads on irrigated farmland rental rents between 2006 and 2011 in Iran. For this analysis, I construct a county-level panel dataset by combining 2006 and 2011 Iranian census and agricultural data on cropland as well as farmland rental rates and exploit a fixed effects approach. I show that the availability of rural asphalt roads, rural sanded roads, and railroad stations increased irrigated farmland rental rates by 3.4 percent, 4.0 percent, and 1.6 percent, respectively. I also show that the effect of...

Investigating Daylight Saving Time (DST)Impacts on the Electricity Power Consumption in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ramezani, Iman (Author) ; Hajipour, Ehsan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of daylight saving time policy on electricity consumption in Iran. After World War I, many countries gradually implemented annual time change laws to extend daylight availability. This involved moving a specific amount of time (usually one hour) forward in early spring and back in early autumn. Historically, the majority of the electricity load on power grids was due to lighting, so this decision made sense. However, with technological advances and diversification of electricity usage, this decision is now being questioned, particularly in light of air conditioning loads, which make up a large part of electricity usage in Iran. These loads have the potential...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bidhendi, Reza (Author) ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Privatization in Iran was primarily driven by the 2004 amendment to the Article 44 of the Iranian Constitution. Improving firms' efficiency is cited as the key goal of the privatization program. The two prominent characteristics of the privatization program in Iran are complex ownership structure and transferring ownership from the government to government-affiliated institutions and organizations. For these reasons, the consequences of privatization in Iran may differ from those of other countries. Therefore, this study explores the relation between privatization and firm performance, as measured by firm efficiency, labor efficiency, investment, and the number of employees.
