Kinetic study of heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of cyclohexene to cyclohexane in ionic liquid-alcohols mixtures

    , Article Applied Catalysis A: General ; Volume 341, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 58-64 ; 0926860X (ISSN) Khodadadi Moghaddam, M ; Habibi Yangjeh, A ; Gholami, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of cyclohexene, catalyzed by Pt/Al2O3, was carried out in solutions of 2-hydroxyethylammonium formate (a room temperature ionic liquid, RTIL) mixed with methanol, ethanol and propan-2-ol at 25 °C. The rate constants of the reaction in ionic liquid alcohol mixtures were higher than alcohol alone. First-order rate constant of the reaction in the RTIL relative to propan-2-ol is approximately 28. Furthermore, the rate constant of the reaction increases with the mole fraction of the ionic liquid. Single-parameter correlations of log k vs. normalized polarity parameter (ETN), hydrogen-bond acceptor basicity (β) and hydrogen-bond donor acidity (α) do not give...

    , Article Electrochimica Acta ; Volume 52, Issue 22 , 2007 , Pages 6310-6317 ; 00134686 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Zare Mehrjardi, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
A modified carbon-paste electrode (CPE) is prepared by incorporating thionine-nafion supported on multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT). The electrochemical behavior of dopamine (DA) and ascorbic acid (AA) on the surface of the modified electrode is investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The results show that thionine effectively immobilized in the matrix of the paste by using an appropriate mixture of nafion/MWCNT under the ultrasonic condition. On the other hand, presence of nafion enhances the stability of the thionine supported by MWCNT in the composite electrode and improves the reproducibility of the surface of the modified electrode under renewing process by polishing. The results of...

    Abstract
Although Multi-Walled Carbon NanoTubes (MWCNTs) are found to influence the rheological behavior of drilling fluids, there are yet some controversies regarding their performance towards reducing formation damage induced by the invasion of water-based drilling fluids (WBFs). To address this important question, we synthesized novel nanocomposite materials via modifying the MWCNT via varying the proportion of carboxylated MWCNTs to PolyVinyl Alcohol (PVA). These nanocomposites were then used to make nano-based drilling-fluids (NDFs). The performance of the NDFs was evaluated by a set of rheological behavior tests, filtration experiments, and core-scale mud flow tests. To distinguish between the...

Synthesis of Double Network Hydrogels Based on Chitosan, Alginate, and Poly (Vinyl Alchohol) with High Mechanical Properties and Investigation of Their Biocompatibility

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tavakkoli, Elham (Author) ; Pourjavadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Double network (DN) hydrogels are a new interpenetrate polymer network (IPN) that are usually contain about 60-90 % water. Despite of this amount of water, they are though and strong. DN hydrogels comprise of two networks, the first one as the brittle gel, is generally high density crosslinked and the second one, the loose and stretchable network, is loosely crosslinked or even without crosslinking. Therefore, we used cationic polymer, chitosan, and anionic polymer, alginate, as the first networks, therefore, we used sodium phosphate for physical crosslinking of chitosan, and calcium chloride as the physical crosslinking agents for alginate network. Also, poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), as the...

Poly (Vinyl Alcohol) Hydrogel/Nano-diamond as a Replacement for the Nucleus Pulposus

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haddadi, Sara (Author) ; Frounchi, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Dadbin, Susan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The nucleus pulposus, which is a part of intervertebral disc, is normally hydrated and gel-like to maintain normal biomechanical functions of the disc through intradiscal pressures. In a degenerated disc, however, water content of nucleus is significantly reduced, resulting in an abnormal stress state of the annulus. Surgical interventions cannot restore the biomedical function to vertebral segment. One approach to restore the normal biomechanics of an intervertebral disc is to replace the nucleus with a prosthetic material which leads to a restoration of the behavior of the disc. The mechanical behavior of poly(vinyl alcohol) and nanodiamond hydrogel may provide a material suitable for...
