    Abstract
    A novel combination between N-hydroxy phthalimide (NHPI) and a silica based cobalt (II) interphase catalyst (1) efficiently catalyzes the aerobic oxidation of various types of alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds. The catalyst 1 shows high thermal stability and also could be recovered and reused in combination with NHPI for at least five reaction cycles without considerable loss of reactivity. © 2005 Elsevier B.V.     Solid lithium perchlorate as a powerful catalyst for the synthesis of β-aminoalcohols under solvent-free conditions

    Abstract
    Lithium perchlorate catalyzed the ring opening of epoxides with amines to provide the corresponding β-aminoalcohols in excellent yields with high regioselectivity. The reaction proceeds rapidly under mild and neutral conditions and worked well with primary, secondary, aliphatic, aromatic, and hindered amines in short times at room temperature, in the absence of solvent. © 2005 NRC Canada

    Abstract
    The novel N2O2 unsymmetrical tetradentate Schiff bases complexes are used as catalysts for the selective aerobic oxidation of cyclohexene. In general, conversion percentages decrease with increasing ΔEp and decreasing Eredox 0′. Catalytic activity increases with decrease of the number of electron-donating groups and the catalytic selectivity varies according to the types of substituents in the ligands. The catalytic system described here is an inexpensive method for selective oxidation of olefins, with advantages of high activity, selectivity, re-usability and short reaction times.     Catalyst layers are one the important parts of the PEM fuel cells as they are the main place for electrochemical reaction taking place in anode and cathode of the cells. The amount of catalyst loading of this layer has a large effect on PEM fuel cell performance. Non-uniformity of reactant concentration could lead to a variation of current density in anode and cathode catalyst layer.     Abstract
    Dimensional analysis of the governing equations in liquid-phase, solid-acid-catalyzed alkylation was used to develop an empirical model for the catalyst lifetime in terms of important operating variables. It was found that the dimensionless catalyst lifetime in a continuous stirred tank reactor was a function of four dimensionless groups, incorporating all important kinetic and operating variables. A power-law correlation was found to be adequate in representing the available experimental data.     The deactivation of solid acid catalysts in liquid-phase alkylation of isobutane with butenes was investigated. The role of pore mouth plugging, in particular, was studied and it was found that it had a significant effect on the deactivation behavior. Simple explicit correlations were developed for catalyst lifetime in a CSTR, both in terms of time-on-stream and butene turnover per catalyst weight.     The search for cathode materials with fast oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalytic activities and high ionic conductivity is the key obstacle to SOFCs commercialization and its operation at low temperatures. In order to search for a cathode with enhanced catalytic functionality, herein we report a single-phase CoFe2O4 (CFO) and CoGd0.2Fe1.80O4 (CGFO), which can be employed as an active cathode to improve electrocatalytic ORR functionalities at low temperature.
