Development of nanocrystalline TiO2-Er2O3 and TiO2-Ta2O5 thin film gas sensors: Controlling the physical and sensing properties

    , Article Sensors and Actuators, B: Chemical ; Volume 141, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 76-84 ; 09254005 (ISSN) Mohammadi, M. R ; Fray, D. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
A systematic comparison of single and binary metal oxide TiO2, TiO2-Er2O3 and TiO2-Ta2O5 thin film gas sensors with nanocrystalline and mesoporous microstructure, prepared by sol-gel route, was conducted. The gas sensitivity was increased by secondary phase introduction into TiO2 film via two mechanisms, firstly due to the inhibition of anatase-to-rutile transformation, since the anatase phase accommodates larger amounts of adsorbed oxygen, and secondly due to the retardation of grain growth, since the higher surface area provides more active sites for gas molecule adsorption. The binary metal oxide gas sensors exhibited a remarkable response towards low concentrations of CO and NO2 gases at...

Perylene diimide-POSS network for semi selective solid-phase microextraction of lung cancer biomarkers in exhaled breath

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 1198 , 2022 ; 00032670 (ISSN) Soufi, G ; Bagheri, H ; Yeganeh Rad, L ; Minaeian, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Lung cancer (LC) is the leading cause of cancer mortality so, the analysis of exhaled human breath has great significance for early non-invasive diagnosis. Poor selectivity and strong humidity are two bottlenecks for the application of gas sensors to exhaled breath analysis. The development of novel extractive phases for the analysis of exhaled breath by chromatography is therefore a lucrative object. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) are among the 3D porous materials whose unique properties make them promising coatings for solid-phase microextraction (SPME). Selective enrichment of polar or nonpolar targets depends on the pore size and functional groups on the POSSs. Herein, we...

    Abstract
Fast, efficient, and accurate detection of SARS-CoV-2 spike antigen is pivotal to control the spread and reduce the mortality of COVID-19. Nevertheless, the sensitivity of available nanobiosensors to detect recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike antigen seems insufficient. As a proof-of-concept, MOF-5/CoNi2S4 is developed as a low-cost, safe, and bioactive hybrid nanostructure via the one-pot high-gravity protocol. Then, the porphyrin, H2TMP, was attached to the surface of the synthesized nanomaterial to increase the porosity for efficient detection of recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike antigen. AFM results approved roughness in different ranges, including 0.54 to 0.74 μm and 0.78 to ≈0.80 μm, showing good...
