Nanocomposites can add or improve one or more properties to coating properties. In the present study, we tried to first synthesize NanoDiamond/Polyaniline hybrid nanoparticles in different percentages and then use this hybrid in epoxy ester coating. To characterize this hybrid, various analyzes such as FE-SEM, TEM, FT-IR, UV-Visible, TGA and XRD were...

Nanotube Nanostructured Bioceramics by Sol-gel Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Majidnia, Elahe (Author) ; Mohammadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hydroxyapatite (HA) is an attractive biomaterial due to its close chemical composition to bone and teeth. However, HA is brittle and has low strength under bearing loads, resulting in limition for orthopedic and dental applications. Two creative approaches have been developed to overcome this problem, using bioactive HA as coatings on metallic implants or as ceramic/metal composites. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) possess excellent mechanical properties to play the role as reinforcement for imparting strength and toughness to brittle hydroxyapatite (HA) bioceramic coating. Moreover, The addition of TiO2 to HA coatings has attracted considerable attention, since TiO2 is capable of increasing the...

Effects of APS Coating on Wear Characteristic of Internal Combustion Engine's Cylinder

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghorashi, Mir Siavash (Author) ; Farrahi, Gholamhossein (Supervisor) ; Yousefi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The quest for increasing the efficiency of internal combustion engines is going on since the invention of automobile in the world. Wear between cylinder and ring is one of the major parameters reducing the engine performance. So many parameters are affecting the wear losses. Temperature plays a key role on the severity of wear condition in internal combustion engines. In conventional cast iron cylinders, we are not able to increase the temperature from a defined level; one reason is that the wear rate on cylinder ring contact will increase excessively. One of the major benefits of using ceramic coating is their ability to withstand in higher temperatures, while having adequate hardness to...

Fabrication and Evaluation of Mechanical and Anti-corrosion Properties of Epoxy Resin/Carbon Nanofibers Containing Organic Corrosion Inhibitors

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghaderi, Mohammad (Author) ; Ramazani Saadat Abadi, Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Mahdavian Ahadi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
To protect mild steel against corrosion, an intelligent self-healing epoxy (EP) coating including carbon nanofiber (CNF) modified with polydopamine (PDA)-La (III) complex was successfully fabricated. The high aspect ratio and unique thermal and electrical characteristics of CNF made it an ideal physical barrier against the penetration of corrosive ions. Due to the poor dispersion of CNF, its surface was modified using PDA. PDA, which contains functional groups such as catechol, amine, and imine, can mitigate corrosion reaction by generating the Fe-Catechol complex and also boost the coating's adherence to the metal surface, in addition to anchoring La3+ inorganic corrosion inhibitor....
