An electropolymerized aniline-based fiber coating for solid phase microextraction of phenols from water

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 532, Issue 1 , 2005 , Pages 89-95 ; 00032670 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Mir, A ; Babanezhad, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
An aniline-based polymer was electrochemically prepared and applied as a new fiber coating for solid phase microextraction (SPME) of some priority phenols from water samples. The polyaniline (PANI) film was directly electrodeposited on the platinum wire surface in sulfuric acid solution using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. The efficiency of new coating was investigated using a laboratory-made SPME device and gas chromatography with flame ionization detection for the extraction of some phenols from the headspace of aqueous samples. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed the homogeneity and the porous surface structure of the film. The results obtained proved the ability of...

Overall behavior of composites with periodic multi-inhomogeneities

    , Article Mechanics of Materials ; Volume 37, Issue 2-3 SPEC. ISS , 2005 , Pages 343-353 ; 01676636 (ISSN) Shodja, H. M ; Roumi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
When applying the equivalent inclusion method (EIM) to a composite material with non-dilute distribution of reinforcement particles, due to the complex interaction between the particles, the homogenizing eigenstrain field will in general be highly nonlinear. The interaction becomes more complex, when the reinforcements are multi-phase particles, i.e., the core inhomogeneity is surrounded by many layers of coatings. In this paper, a treatment for an accurate determination of the distribution of homogenizing eigenstrain fields corresponding to composites with non-dilute periodic distribution of multi-phase reinforcement particles is given. The proposed method is applicable to problems, where...

Wear and friction characteristics of electrodeposited graphite-bronze composite coatings

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 190, Issue 1 , 2005 , Pages 32-38 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Ghorbani, M ; Mazaheri, M ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
The wear and friction properties of G-Cu (Sn) composite coatings containing different amounts of graphite particles were examined. The presence of graphite particles improved antifriction properties of composite coatings. The effects of graphite percent in composite coating, tin content of matrix, load, speed and distance on the coefficient of friction and wear resistance of bronze-graphite composite coatings were studied. The results of the present studies revealed that hardness, wear resistance, coefficient of friction are dependent on volume percentage of graphite in composite coating. It was shown that the composite coating containing approximately 5.4 (vol.%) graphite and matrix with...

Atmospheric corrosion evaluation of silver coating using simulating technique test

, Article European Corrosion Conference: Long Term Prediction and Modelling of Corrosion, EUROCORR 2004, Nice, 12 September 2004 through 16 September 2004 ; 2004 Nasirpouri, F ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
A standard simulating technique test was investigated to assess the atmospheric corrosion behavior of silver coating. The rates of formation of corrosion products were measured in the simulating atmospheres of 100% humidity containing SO 2,H 2S and a complex atmosphere consist of SO 2,H 2S and NO 2 gases ,based on the mass increase method. The concentrations of corrosive gases were chosen according to real world conditions. XRD, SEM and EDS were used to examine the morphology and to determine the composition of the corrosion products under different experimental conditions. Results revealed the formation of Ag 2SO 4 and Ag 2S on the silver coating surfaces in the SO 2 and H 2S containing...

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 28, Issue 11 , 2004 , Pages 933-956 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Mirbagheri, S. M. H ; Dadashzadeh, M ; Serajzadeh, S ; Taheri, A. K ; Davami, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
In this investigation a computational model has been developed which includes heat and mass transfer as well as effects of backpressure, and mould wall friction for the simulation of incompressible flow with free surfaces in mould cavity filling. The simulation of flow with free surfaces is based on the SOLA-VOF numerical algorithm, utilizing the finite difference method. The solid and free boundary conditions have been modified and a new algorithm has been developed to calculate the effect of cavity pressure and wall-slip ratio, during mould filling. In this algorithm, the effect of wall-slip ratio on filling pattern has been modeled with an experimental function. In order to verify the...

Electrodeposition of graphite-bronze composite coatings and study of electroplating characteristics

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 187, Issue 2-3 , 2004 , Pages 293-299 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Afshar, A ; Ghorbani, M ; Mazaheri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
The aim of this research is to obtain composite coatings of bronze (90% Cu-10% Sn) with graphite particles. The electrodeposition of G-Cu (Sn) composites from an alkaline bath containing cyanide is described. Composite coatings consisting of graphite particles and copper-tin were prepared by means of the conventional electrocodeposition (CECD) and sediment codeposition (SCD) techniques. The graphite particles involved were less than 10 μm. The dependence of graphite amount in the composite coatings was investigated in relation to the graphite concentration in bath, cathode current density, stir rate and technique type and it was shown that these parameters strongly affected the volume...

    Abstract
In this investigation, simulation of the 3D flow of incompressible molten metal in a mould cavity has been carried out. A code has been developed to include heat transfer and permeability of coating utilizing the finite difference method (FDM). To achieve this, solid and free boundary conditions have been modified and a new algorithm has been proposed to calculate the effect of coating permeability during mould filling. In this algorithm, the effect of coating permeability on the filling pattern has been modelled and compared with an experiment. The modelling of molten metal flow and the location of free surfaces has been simulated based on the SOLution Algorithm-Volume Of Fraction...

Percolation of cadmium across a mercury film

    , Article Materials Chemistry and Physics ; Volume 78, Issue 3 , 2003 , Pages 796-799 ; 02540584 (ISSN) Malek, K ; Gobal, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
Electrodeposition/dissolution of cadmium onto a film of mercury shows some deviations from the natural liquidity of mercury caused by the reduction of Cd onto it. Percolation and fractal analyzes were done on the surface and the bulk of the mercury film during diffusion of Cd species (atoms). These show that the fractal dimensions of the Cd-inserted mercury film are about 2.11 and 2.54 near the surface of the mercury film and at deeper points inside the film, respectively. The insertion process has a negligible effect on the surface morphology of the mercury film and there is a phase transition in the bulk, as well as a geometrical transition during the Cd-insertion (de-insertion) process....
