    Business incubators admit young startups and help them grow by providing them with a number of services. The startups are put through an admission process, and the incubator is not fully aware of the quality of the startups she is admitting. On the other hand, once inside the incubator, a startup may choose not to exert a high level of effort, as the incubator cannot fully monitor its behaviour.     Investigating the Effect Strain Rate on the Poisson’s Ratio of Auxetic Polyurethane Foams

    Auxetic materials have a negative Poisson ratio (NPR), which is their most distinguishable characteristic as compared to regular materials. Test specimens were made of conventional polyurethane (PU) foams according to ASTM ; then, with a thermo-mechanical process, the foam was converted to auxetic PU foam. The reproducibility of specimens' fabrication was checked with CoV= for the final foam thickness.     Abstract
    Dynamic compaction is a widely used soil improvement method in dry and/or saturated soils. Despite its vast application, its design basis is still empirical and the mechanisms that are involved in the procedure are not fully understood. A fully coupled dynamic finite element code has been developed in order to clarify the ambiguities in the process and predict the strain/displacement field in the ground, determine depth and degree of improvement, and also calculate the pore pressure variation during the process.     Abstract
    This paper presents an experimental evaluation of the effectiveness of the Master/Checker (M/C) architecture in a 32-bit Pentium® processor system using both power-supply disturbance (PSD) fault injection and software-implemented fault injection (SWIFI) methods. A total of 6000 faults were injected in the Master processor to measure the error detection coverage of the Checker processor. The results of the experiments with PSD fault injection show that the error detection coverage of the M/C architecture is about 66.13%, which is not quite effective. This low coverage depends on the high rate of Master processor hangs because of voltage fluctuation. The coverage increased to about 99.73% when...

    In this paper we integrate a verification methodology with our object-oriented system-level synthesis methodology to address the problem of HW/SW co-verification after system synthesis. We have defined a set of system-level assertions. These assertions are automatically converted to monitor hardware or monitor software during the system-level synthesis process depending on their type and also synthesis style of their corresponding functions.     Structures with inappropriate distributions of strength and stiffness have performed poorly in recent earthquakes, and most of the observed collapses have been related to some extent to configuration problems or a wrong conceptual design. Shear building models of multi-story structures are considered in this study and are subjected to a group of severe earthquakes. It is shown that the strength distribution patterns suggested by the seismic codes do not lead to a uniform distribution and minimum amount of ductility, drift, and damage.     This paper introduces a multi-task 4 DOF pole climbing/ manipulating robotic mechanism. A hybrid serial/parallel mechanism, providing 2 translations and 2 rotations, have been designed as the main part of the mechanism. This robotic mechanism can travel along tubular structures with bends, branches and step changes in cross section. It is also able to perform manipulation, repair and maintenance tasks after reaching the target point on the structure.     Abstract
    The effects of powder particle size on the densification and microstructure of iron powder in the direct laser sintering process were investigated. Iron powders with particle sizes ranging from 10 to 200 μm were used. It was found that the sintered density increases as the laser energy input is increased. There is, however, a saturation level at which higher density cannot be obtained even at very intensive energy input. This saturation density increases as the size of the iron particles decreases.
