    Abstract
This paper investigates three different strategies for centralized charging/discharging management of electric vehicles, their features and the impacts on technical performance of distribution systems. Three goals of load factor maximization, load variance reduction and energy loss minimization are chosen as the main technical factors need to be optimized in the proposed electric vehicles charging/discharging management strategies. In this regard, at first, the mathematical model of these strategies for both cases of with/without vehicle-to-grid (V2G) programs are extracted. Then, solving procedure of the attained optimization problems with different optimization methods are explained. These...

Optimal zonal fast-charging station placement considering urban traffic circulation

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 66, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 45-56 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Rajabi Ghahnavieh, A ; Sadeghi Barzani, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Fast-charging stations are connected to the electric grid and can fully charge an electric vehicle (EV) in less than half an hour. The capacity and location of the charging stations bring the costs to the electric grid operator, as well as to the station owner and EV user. A zonal approach has been proposed in this paper to determine the optimal place and capacity of fast-charging stations. Station development cost and the expected costs incurred by the EV user and the grid operator due to EV charging have also been included in the proposed approach. The geographic characteristics associated with the electric substations, urban roads, and city zones have also been considered in the proposed...

    Abstract
Noise emission from vehicles in urban transportation has become of interest for researchers in addition to the engine exhaust gas emissions due to its significant effect on public health. In this work, an optimal energy management strategy is proposed for a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) by taking the effect of engine noise into account. The engine noise is calculated based on a pressure-based combustion noise model at different operating points of a 1.5 L gasoline engine. The optimal operating points of the engine are defined using the calculated engine noise from in-cylinder pressure data and experimental data of brake specific fuel consumption (FC). A modification on the electric assist...

    Abstract
Regarding the increasing number of electrical devices in the smart homes that leads to increase in total electricity consumption and cost, it is essential to use energy management methods to reduce the electricity cost. However, this can cause resident's dissatisfaction. Hence, it is important to define a method in which cost and dissatisfaction be optimized simultaneously. Among different services, an electric vehicle is the one that can be used as an energy storage system, so it can reduce the daily cost despite of increasing the total energy consumption. In this paper, we study the effect of the EV on the cost and dissatisfaction in our proposed method. © 2018 IEEE

Investigating the effect of engine noise on power management strategy of a hybrid electric vehicle

    , Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering ; Volume 232, Issue 10 , 2018 , Pages 1287-1296 ; 09544070 (ISSN) Delkhosh, M ; Aliramezani, M ; Khadem Nahvi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    SAGE Publications Ltd  2018
    Abstract
Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have been developed as a promising way to decrease the fuel consumption and emissions of conventional vehicles. Although the noise emission of HEVs is generally lower than that of conventional vehicles, it is still an issue, especially in urban transportation. In this paper, a power management strategy is developed to minimize the annoying noise of the engine for an HEV. This is a modified version of the strategy that was originally established based on the speed ratio of continuously variable transmission (CVT) as the control parameter (CVT-based strategy). The engine combustion noise is assessed using the experimental data of the in-cylinder pressure. Also,...

Planning and operation of parking lots considering system, traffic, and drivers behavioral model

, Article IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems ; 2018 ; 21682216 (ISSN) Rahmani Andebili, M ; Shen, H ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2018
    Abstract
The planning and operation problems of parking lots of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) are studied in this paper. Herein, each distribution company (DISCO) allocates the parking lots to the electrical feeders to minimize the power loss and expected energy not supplied of the system, and consequently minimize the total cost of the planning problem over the given time horizon. In addition, the generation company (GENCO) manages the charging time of PEVs parked in the parking lots to defer the more expensive and pollutant generation units, and as a result maximize its daily profit. In both planning and operation problems, the behavioral model of PEVs' drivers are modeled with respect to the...

    Abstract
With the stricter limitations on both fuel consumption and air pollution, the advantages of a hybrid electric vehicle are becoming more evident than ever. In the present study, an energy management system for a hybrid electric vehicle is developed. Because the plant under consideration is nonlinear, multi-domain, time-varying, has multiple uncertainties and, in addition, the designed control strategy must be able to obey the driver's commands and achieve the par-internship for a new generation of vehicle regulations, the fuzzy logic approach is chosen. A feed-forward hybrid vehicle simulation model is used to demonstrate the validity and the convenience of the current approach and its...

    Abstract
The fast growth of technologies most of which depend on natural sources of energy has resulted in a huge consumption of fossil fuels. In this regard, many solutions have been suggested to alleviate the side effects such as air pollution and global warming. Among these solutions, mobile storages like electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable generations, have grown significantly due to being more applicable. But uncoordinated operation and uncertain nature of these distributed energy resources (DERs) can bring forward new challenges and issues to the operators of power system. Thus, in many cases it is more efficient to co-operate them in a hybrid system. In this study, we address a virtual power...

    Abstract
Constantly rising fuel prices and environmental consciousness have caused alternative transport solutions to be considered.Recently, batteries and electric vehicle industries have developed to become a reasonable alternative for gasoline powered cars. Plug-In hybrid electric vehicles could be connected to the electrical grid to be recharged. To ease the charging process, one solution could use an on-board charger to charge the electric vehicle. This charger should be able to be connected to a conventional outlet for convenience reasons and moreover, it should be a grid friendly charger in order not to pollute the electrical network. After studying the introduced structures for electric...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshavarz, Mostafa (Author) ; Mozafari, Ali Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many studies on hybrid vehicles have been done in the past few years. The Full hybrid vehicles need a large number of batteries creating up to 300V to meet the required voltage of electric motor. The size and weight of the batteries cause some problems. This research investigates the mild hybrid vehicle. This vehicle includes a small electric motor and a high power internal combustion engine. In most cases the car’s driving force is created by internal combustion part. A small electric motor, which can operate as engine starter, generator and traction motor, is located between the engine and automatically shifted multi-gear transmission (gearbox). The clutch is used to disconnect the gearbox...

    Abstract
Gasoline is the major fuel used in transportation sector, even though it's environmental associated concerns and energy security problems receive, and continue to receive, much debate. On the other hand, growth in Iran's population and economy might cause an increase in the amount of cars in the market, consequently, in the transportation sector. The proposed phenomenon will bring a degree of rising in consumption of gasoline together with air pollution, especially in the big cities. Energy policy has acknowledged to be significant step in developing long-term plans across the globe. In this regard, developing policy-based methods and models are of a great importance toward forecasting the...
