    Noise figure of microwave photonic links operating under large-signal modulation and its application to optoelectronic oscillators

    Abstract
    The noise performance of intensity-modulation direct-detection microwave photonic links (MWPL) operating under large-signal conditions has been studied in this paper. A sinusoidal signal plus narrow-band white Gaussian noise is applied at the radio frequency input of the link, and the output spectrum is derived using a nonlinear analytical approach. We show that the output SNR can be severely affected by the interaction of signal and noise due to the nonlinearity of the MWPL combined with the large input modulating signal.     Parameter extraction of the five-parameter single-diode model of solar cells and modules from experimental data is a challenging problem. These parameters are evaluated from a set of nonlinear equations that cannot be solved analytically. On the other hand, a numerical solution of such equations needs a suitable initial guess to converge to a solution. This paper presents a new set of approximate analytical solutions for the parameters of a five-parameter single-diode model of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules.     In this paper, the reactive power control of a variable-speed permanent-magnet synchronous wind generator with a matrix converter at the grid side is improved. A generalized modulation technique based on singular value decomposition of the modulation matrix is used to model different modulation techniques and investigate their corresponding input reactive power capability. Based on this modulation technique, a new control method is proposed for the matrix converter which uses active and reactive parts of the generator current to increase the control capability of the grid-side reactive current compared to conventional modulation methods.     In this paper, a new simple and complete technique of modeling and analysis of a matrix converter is presented based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) of modulation matrix. The proposed modeling method yields a new limitation between the matrix converter gain and its input power factor, which is more relaxed as compared to the limits reported so far in the literature. The SVD of the modulation matrix leads to a unified modulation technique which achieves the full capability of a matrix converter.     In this paper, we design a dimming compatible visible light communication (VLC) system in a standard office room according to illumination standards under channel constraints. We use overlapping pulse position modulation (OPPM) to support dimming control by changing the code weights.     In this paper we generalize Tannakian formalism to fiber functors over general tensor categories. We will show that (under some technical conditions) if the fiber functor has a section, then the source category is equivalent to the category of comodules over a Hopf algebra in the target category.     In trasformerless grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems, common-mode voltage (CMV) fluctuations cause leakage current flow through the stray capacitance of the PV panels. Shoot-through states in a quasi-Z-source inverter (q-ZSI) increase the amplitude of high-order harmonics of CMV. In this paper, by using the modulation technique based on odd pulse width modulation and minor change in the Z network of the three-phase q-ZSI, the leakage current is blocked. No extra semiconductor element is added. By the proposed technique, CMV is kept nearly constant during switching cycles.     In this paper, the problem of routing, modulation level, core, and spectrum assignment (RMCSA) in space-division-multiplexed elastic optical networks (SDM-EONs) is studied. We formulate this problem as a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), in which dedicated and shared path protection schemes are supported in SDM-EONs with multi-core fibers (MCFs) and the inter-core crosstalk of MCFs is strictly modeled. Furthermore, an efficient heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve the RMCSA problem in a large scale scenario.     Abstract
    In this paper, we analyze the performance of a wireless infrared system with code division multiple access (CDMA) technique using optical orthogonal codes (OOCs). Performance improvement is shown when power control is applied to the system. Noting the advantages of pulse position modulation (PPM), we have used chip-level binary PPM scheme. To mention some of these advantages we can name average required power reduction and BER improvement in comparison to on-off keying (OOK).     In the IEEE 802.1D standard for the Media Access Control layer (MAC layer) bridges, there is an STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) definition, based on the algorithm that was proposed by Radia Perlman.     The effect of the superconductivity transition on the thermal crosstalk in YBa 2Cu 3O 7-x, edge-transition bolometer arrays is investigated for DC to midrange modulation frequency infrared radiation. The bolometers in the arrays were designed with various distances on SrTiO 3 (100) substrates. We have observed a change in the thermal crosstalk between neighbor devices through the superconductivity transition temperature range.
