    Chaos prediction in MEMS-NEMS resonators

    Abstract
    Different nonlinearities in micro-electro-mechanical resonators lead to various nonlinear behaviors such as chaotic motion which can affect the resonator performance. As a result, it is important to properly identify and analyze the chaotic regions in resonators. In this paper, a novel method is proposed for prediction of the chaos in the micro- and nano-electro-mechanical resonators. Based on the proposed method, first an accurate analytical solution for the dynamics behavior of the nano-resonators is derived using the multiple scales method up to the second order.     An acid treatment of the cordierite monolith followed by coating of the CNT onto it by means of catalytic decomposition of methane was performed. The resulting material utilized as the support for the CoMo catalyst. The characterization outcomes showed that the CNTs were distributed uniformly on the surface of the monolith leading to a high BET surface area and relatively good adhered mesoporous layer of CNTs.     Two strategies for multi-objective optimisation of solid oxide fuel cell stacks

    Abstract
    This paper focuses on multi-objective optimisation (MOO) to optimise the planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stacks performance using a genetic algorithm. MOO problem does not have a single solution, but a complete Pareto curve, which involves the optional representation of possible compromise solutions. Here, two pairs of different objectives are considered as distinguished strategies. Optimisation of the first strategy predicts a maximum power output of 108.33 kW at a breakeven per-unit energy cost of 0.51 $/kWh and minimum breakeven per-unit energy cost of 0.30 $/kWh at a power of 42.18 kW.     In this paper, we investigate the CO emission from an oil refinery gas incinerator both theoretically and experimentally. At the beginning of this research, our collected data from this incinerator showed that the CO contamination would be far exceeding the permissible environmental standards at the stack exhaust. Therefore, we decided to perform a combined theoretical-experimental study to find a reasonable solution to reduce the CO pollution suitably. Our theoretical study showed that a reliable solution would be to increase the incinerator operating temperature. Two parallel rails of the track have been modeled as Euler-Bernoulli beams on elastic points as rail pads. Also sleepers have been modeled as visco-elastic Euler-Bernoulli beams.     Abstract
    This paper discusses the studies carried out for the optimal production of enzyme l-asparaginase (l-asparagine amidohydrolase, EC 3.5.1.1) from Escherichia coli (ATCC 11303). It was found that inoculum age of 18 h and inoculum size of 10% were the most favorable operating conditions for enzyme production. Lactose, yeast extract and KH 2PO 4 were found to be the best carbon, nitrogen and ion sources, respectively. Statistical method was used to survey how various medium conditions affect the enzyme production.     Abstract
    In this research, a palladium nanocatalyst was synthesised over a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) support and then applied for selective hydrogenation of acetylene in an ethylene-richflow stream. This material displayed a very promising selectivity toward ethylene production with increasing temperature, and also suppressed oligomer formation during acetylene hydrogenation. New operating conditions for selective hydrogenation of acetylene in an ethylene-richflow were introduced. This nanocatalyst gave a considerably higher yield, as high as 93%, than that previously obtained for ethylene production.     Dispersed phase holdup has been measured in a 76 mm diameter pulsed disc and doughnut extraction column for three different liquid-liquid systems. The effects of operational variables such as pulsation intensity and dispersed and continuous phase flow rates on holdup have been investigated and found to be significant. The existence of three different operational regimes, namely mixer-settler, dispersion, and emulsion regimes, was observed when the energy input was changed.     Thermal cracking of a vacuum distillation residue of the Abadan refinery in Iran was performed under delayed coking conditions to investigate the effect of operating conditions on the yield and sulfur content of products. At reaction temperatures of 440-500 °C and pressures of 1, 3, and 5 bar, the products included gases, liquids, and coke. The yields of liquid products were higher at 1 bar compared to those for higher pressures. Increasing the reaction temperature at a given reaction pressure led to an increase in the yield of liquid products.     Abstract
    In this work, an exergy analysis is performed for the waste heat recovery section (WHRS) of the steam-natural gas reforming (SNGR) process as a major energy intensive process. Two alternate conditions are investigated to evaluate the required thermodynamic parameters: normal operating condition and increase of C2+ components in the process feed stream. At normal operating condition, the exergy efficiency of WHRS amounts to 0.58 while some 17.2 kJ energy is destructed for each mole of H2 produced. If heavier than methane components are increased in the feed up to 8.5 mole %, despite the increase of H2 production, the exergy efficiency decreases down to 0.54...

    The desulfurization of non-hydrotreated gas oil using oxidation followed by liquid/liquid extraction has been studied. The solvent extraction of oxidized sulfur- containing compounds of gas oil was carried out by utilizing various types of solvents, including acetonitrile, methanol, and 96 vol.-% ethanol. The performance of these solvents was carefully evaluated and compared by considering both desulfurization and gas oil recovery.
