    Primal-dual interior-point methods (IPMs) have shown their power in solving large classes of optimization problems. However, there is still a discrepancy between the practical behavior of these algorithms and their theoretical worst-case complexity results with respect to the update strategies of the duality gap parameter in the algorithm.     Abstract
    The performance of most image denoising systems depends on some parameters which should be set carefully based on noise distribution and its variance. As in some applications noise characteristics are unknown, in this research, a criterion which its minimization leads to the best parameter set up is introduced. The proposed criterion is evaluated for the wavelet shrinkage image denoising algorithm using the cross validation procedure. The criterion is tested for some different values of thresholds, and the output leading to the minimum criterion value is selected as the final denoised output.     Abstract
    The well-known ant colony optimization meta-heuristic is applied to design a new command to line-of-sight guidance law. In this regard, the lately developed continuous ant colony system is used to optimize the parameters of a pre-constructed fuzzy sliding mode controller.     Abstract
    This article presents an overview of the mechanical design and fabrication of a Rescue Robot (CEDRA) for operation in unstructured environments. In order to obtain an appropriate mechanism for climbing the stairs, a novel method has been developed. In this kinematics-based approach we don't need to perform any dynamic analysis which is highly complicated and time consuming for most rovers. According to the essential characteristics needed for rovers, two objective functions were defined. We have shown that the new mechanism performs better on rough terrains than the previous well-known mechanism widely used in the Mars rovers.     Abstract
    We have applied Rosenbrock's optimization algorithm to obtain the optimized efficiency of a solar cell and its structural parameters. To obtain these parameters, we have developed a computer program for simultaneous optimization and simulation of the solar cell. We have used experimental data on the electrical and optical properties of a-Si1-xCx layers, put them into the written code and obtained the optimized parameters of this solar cell. The maximum efficiency is 6.32% which is close to one experimental result. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
