CaTiO3/α-TCP coatings on CP-Ti prepared via electrospinning and pulsed laser treatment for in-vitro bone tissue engineering

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 401 , 2020 Yadi, M ; Esfahani, H ; Sheikhi, M ; Mohammadi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
In this study, the in-vitro bone regeneration ability of commercial pure titanium (CP-Ti) surface modified via electrospun polyvinylidene/hydroxyapatite (PVP/HA) masking and subsequent Nd-YAG pulsed laser treatment was investigated. The ratio of HA to PVP played a significant role in achieving a perfect homogenous mask on the CP-Ti. In the laser treatment process, the parameter of area scanning speed (ASS) had an important influence on the final surface morphology. A favorable range was defined for this parameter where these two conditions were satisfied: no PVP remaining and no severe substrate melting. Within a favorable range of ASS, as decreasing ASS exchanged the surface structure from...

In vitro dissolution of plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite coatings with different characteristics: Experimental study and modeling

    , Article Biomedical Materials ; Volume 3, Issue 1 , 2008 ; 17486041 (ISSN) Mohammadi, Z ; Ziaei Moayyed, A. A ; Sheikh Mehdi Mesgar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
The dissolution of plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite (PHA) coatings with different characteristics, produced by various spraying conditions, in a Tris-buffered solution at pH 7.4 was experimentally studied through the measurement of the release of calcium ions. The phase composition of the coatings at surface and interface, and the porosity were evaluated. The analytical modeling revealed that the calcium dissolution process was composed of two stages. The first stage was found to be both surface and diffusion controlled. The second stage was an exactly diffusion-controlled dissolution. In the first stage, the rate of dissolution and the solubility of the coatings with minimum contents of...

Then chemistry, morphology, and anti-corrosion ability of the commercial zinc phosphate (ZP) and CZP pigments were studied. By electrochemical techniques, the inhibition potency of the CZP nanopigment was examined in a NaCl solution on mild steel (MS) substance and compared with that of ZP. Results revealed a higher corrosion inhibition degree of the CZP compared to the ZP. The growth of a protective layer on the metal coupons exposed to the CZP extract was illustrated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), field emission...

    Abstract
Poly (lactate-co-glycolate) (PLGA) is a typical biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic polymer. The addition of TiO2 nanoparticles has shown to improve compressive modulus of PLGA scaffolds and reduced fast degradation. A novel method has been applied to fabricate PLGA/TiO2 scaffolds without using any inorganic solvent, with aim of improving the biocompatibility, macroscale morphology, and well inter-connected pores efficacy: Air–Liquid Foaming. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) revealed an increase in interconnected porosity of up to 98%. As well the compressive testing showed enhancement in modulus. Bioactivity and in vitro degradation were studied with immersion of...

    Abstract
In this study, the aging of the LiFePO4/graphite cell was investigated in two different types of 18650 Li-ion batteries during cycling at various C-rates (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4C) and high temperature under long-term cycling. An amount of 20% Capacity loss was considered as the end of the cycling. Batteries with a capacity of 1500 mAh after this capacity drop, experience 60, 120, 1502, and 2155 cycles, at the rates of 4, 3, 2, and 1C , and batteries with capacity of 1400 mAh was also 60, 360, 1100, 1000, and 805 cycles at a rate of 0.5C. Capacity decrease of the cell is in linear relationship with cycle number and the slope of the capacity-fading line increases with elevating current rate. Aging...

Study and Preparation of the Modified Nanostructure Carbon Electrode for Capacitive Deionization (CDI) Process

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Majid (Author) ; Ahadian, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays capacitive deionization (CDI) has attracted a lot of attention for water treatment. CDI is an emerging water treatment technology that uses electrophoretic driving forces for desalination of water. During the CDI process, ions are adsorbed onto the surface of electrodes by applying a low voltage electric field (DC<2V). In addition, the regeneration of the electrodes contains desorption of the electrosorbed ions from the surface of the electrodes to the water in the absence of the applied electric field. In the mechanism of CDI, separation and accumulation of ions in the electric field are the main processes and no additional chemicals are required in this technology. Therein,...

The electrochemical reaction and the high temperature caused by the plasma discharges in the electrolyte were the main factors leading to the fabrication of an oxide layer containing Zr compounds on AZ31 Mg alloy. The micro-pores were filled with ZrO2 formed during the PEO process. The results of...

The effects of pH and the chemicals' concentration on extraction characteristics of Mo and Re are investigated to define the best condition for selective extraction of these metals. The tested leached liquor contained of 8.2...

    Abstract
In this study, bioglasses in SiO2-CaO-MgO system were synthesized through sol-gel method and the effect of silica and magnesia contents on in-vitro bioactivity of the bioglasses were investigated. XRD patterns showed an amorphous structure after heat treatment at 600°C for 2 h for all glasses and also indicated that after immersion in SBF, apatite particles precipitated on glass surfaces and the rate of apatite formation decreased with increasing Mg/Ca ratio. On the other hand, the apatite formation rate was enhanced with increasing the silica content. Furthermore, magnesia contents increased the compressive strength of the samples. According to SEM, higher Mg/Ca ratio led to increase in...

    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
Tributhyl phosphate (TBP) decomposition in supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) was performed with and without catalyst, at different temperatures ranging from 370 to 480 °C, and different reaction times. Ag2O, CuO, Fe2O3, MgO, and ZnO synthesized by supercritical water were examined in TBP decomposition as the catalyst. TBP structure decomposed under the non-catalytic reaction; nevertheless, the results indicated that the use of catalysts improved the reaction efficiency, which calculated based on total organic carbon (TOC) removal, by far. However, TOC removal using Fe2O3 was 20% higher than the non-catalytic reaction. Having the ability in completion of the redox cycle, iron oxide...

    Abstract
Solid-phase microextraction probes based on poly(ethylene glycol)/C18-bonded silica were used for in vivo monitoring of drugs from circulating blood of beagles, over a period of 8 h. After sampling, the extracted drugs were subsequently quantified by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. External calibrations in whole blood and phosphate-buffered saline were used to correlate the amount of analytes extracted in regard to the total and free concentrations in blood respectively. The probe provided sufficient sensitivity for the drugs in the blood matrix, while the need for drawing blood was eliminated. The limit of detections of the method from whole blood were 1.7, 1.4...
