    Abstract
A severe plastic straining method, called constrained groove pressing, is used to improve the microstructure and mechanical properties of non-hardenable 3003 Al-Mn alloy. Williamson-Hall method is utilized to measure the grain size from X-ray diffraction patterns of deformed samples. The results show that ultra-fine grained 3003 alloy having grain size of 580 nm can be successfully produced by constrained groove pressing at room temperature. Mechanical properties of sheets, examined by tensile test, are approximately exhibited 170% improvement in comparison with those of annealed sample. Also, comparing the achieved results with those of aluminum 1100 alloy confirms the rapid rate of grain...

CO gas sensor properties of Cu@CuO core-shell nanoparticles based on localized surface plasmon resonance

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 115, Issue 45 , 2011 , Pages 22126-22130 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Ghodselahi, T ; Zahrabi, H ; Saani, M. H ; Vesaghi, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Hexagonal array of Cu@CuO core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) on the a-C:H thin film was prepared by codeposition of RF-sputtering and RF-PECVD. The trace of hexagonal NPs supperlattice was recognized by AFM image and XRD result. On the basis of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of core-shell NPs, the prepared array detected a low flow rate of CO gas at room temperature. XPS results indicate that the surface of Cu@CuO core-shell NPs have no chemical reaction with CO molecule. The physical absorption of CO molecule on the surface of Cu@CuO core-shell NPs increases the LSPR absorbance and causes a red shift in LSPR wavelength. These experimental results are in agreement with Mie theory...

    2011
    Abstract
Effects of pH, D2EHPA, Cyanex® 272 and Cyanex® 302 on extraction of zinc, manganese and cobalt from a Zn-Mn-Co-Cd-Ni containing solution at the room temperature was comprehensively investigated. Addition of Cyanex® 302 indicated a left-shifting-effect on the extraction curve of zinc, a right-shifting-effect on the extraction curve of manganese and no effect on the extraction of cobalt. Addition of Cyanex® 272 shifted all three curves to the right. Therefore, the most suitable extractant for separation of zinc from manganese was therefore 0.3-0.3 mixture of D2EHPA and Cyanex® 302, and that for separation of manganese from cobalt was pure D2EHPA. The stoichiometric coefficient for the...

    Abstract
Site reactivity of some enol-imines derived from N-aryl formamides with pentachloropyridine under basic conditions in dry CH3CN was investigated. The aromatic nucleophilic substitution of pentachloropyridine with enol-imines occurs at the 4-position of pyridine ring by both oxygen and nitrogen site of enol-imines. Nucleophilic attack by the oxygen of enol-imine gave corresponding oximino compounds as a mixture of E- and Z-isomers. In contrast, nucleophilic attack by the nitrogen of enol-imine gave the unexpected N,N-di-substituted aryl compounds. The structures of all the compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 19F NMR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis and...

    Abstract
In this paper, dynamic ageing characteristics associated with the application of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) to Al6061 alloy at elevated temperatures was investigated. Followed by ECAP, Vickers microhardness measurement on the cross-sectional planes and microstructural observations were undertaken using transmission electron microscopy. The combination of the ECAP process with dynamic ageing at both 100°C and 150°C resulted in a significant increase in hardness. The grain size was measured as ∼160. nm after four passes. A comparison with the published data on the same alloy processed by ECAP at room temperature and statically aged, suggests several advantages in incorporating...

    Abstract
Equal channel angular pressing is an outstanding method for imposing large plastic deformation to metallic materials without any decreasing in cross section area of as processed samples. In this paper, the effect of working temperature, ram speed and the number of passes on the formation of adiabatic shear bands in Al6061 during equal channel angular pressing was investigated. Billets of the alloy were processed up to four passes via route BC from room temperature to 200°C with two ram speeds using a die that imparts an effective strain of ∼1.1 per pass. The results have demonstrated that the onset of the adiabatic shear banding in this alloy strongly depends on the ram speed: more...

    Abstract
We present gas sensing property of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) composite as the active element for acetone vapour detection at room temperature. The polymeric films were formed by spin coating method on SiO2 substrates. Then they were activated by dropping the CNTs suspension in acetone on the PMMA films. The CNT/PMMA films were characterised by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Variation of film's electrical resistance after exposure polar and non-polar gases is utilised as the principle of gas sensing. The experimental results showed that the samples present chemical selectivity and reversibility toward polar gases especially acetone vapour

    Abstract
Dual-phase (DP) steels with different martensite contents were produced by subjecting a low carbon steel to various heat treatment cycles. In order to investigate the effect of dynamic strain aging (DSA) on mechanical properties, tensile specimens were deformed 3% at 300 °C. Room temperature tensile tests of specimens which deformed at 300 °C showed that both yield and ultimate tensile strengths increased, while total elongation decreased. The fatigue limit increased after pre-strain in the DSA temperature range. The effects of martensite volume fraction on mechanical properties were discussed

Easy preparation, mild reaction conditions, high yields of the products, short reaction times, no further oxidation to the corresponding carboxylic acids, high selectivity and inexpensive reagents make this...

A novel spin-bonding process for manufacturing multilayered clad tubes

    , Article Journal of Materials Processing Technology ; Volume 210, Issue 3 , 2010 , Pages 510-517 ; 09240136 (ISSN) Mohebbi, M. S ; Akbarzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Utilizing the so-called tube spinning, a cold-bonding process entitled as "spin-bonding" is developed to produce seamless thin-walled clad tubes and cylinders. By this method, two layers of AA 1050 tubes were successfully bonded together to form a clad tube at room temperature. Based on mechanical aspects of the tube spinning process, the mechanism of spin-bonding is explained in two stages: surface preparation before occurrence of a stable bond and bond strengthening thereafter. The effects of process temperature, thickness reduction, feed rate and roller attack angle as the parameters of tube spinning on the bond strength are studied. It is shown that the bond strength increases by...

    Abstract
The sol gel method was employed to prepare peroxopolytungstic acid (P-PTA). Palladium chloride salt was dissolved in the sol with different Pd:W molar ratios and coated on Al2O3 substrates by spin coating method. XRD and XPS techniques were used to analyze the crystal structure and chemical composition of the films before and after heat treatment at 500 °C. We observed that Pd can modify the growth kinetic of tungsten trioxide nanoparticles by reducing the crystallite size and as a result can improve hydrogen sensitivity. Resistance-sensing measurements indicated sensitivity of about 2.5 × 104 at room temperature in hydrogen concentration of 0.1% in air. Considering all sensing parameters,...
