, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghaznavi Doozandeh, Soheil (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The research shows that the compressive strength of concrete reduced by replacing crumb rubber in concrete mix design compared to normal concrete mix design. However, there have been a couple of utilizations investigated to date for the structural utilization of these materials. Crumb rubber is usually provided from recycled rubber from automotive and truck scrap tires. During the recycling process steel and triviality are removed, leaving tire rubber with a granulose cohesiveness. The additional crumb-rubber aggregate has a significant effect on concrete mix porosity which affects both the plastic state workability and hardened state mechanical properties. This research depicts an...

Fluoride Removal from Radioactive Wastewater of UCF Plant by Adsorption

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Hajideh, Maryam (Author) ; Samadfam, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Sepehrian, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, a review on fluoride adsorption revealed that the modification of the adsorber surface with ions like Ca2+ results in great enhancement of the fluoride adsorption. It seems that the enhancement in fluoride adsorption by the modified adsorber, is mainly due to the selective chemical binding of the fluoride ion with the surface-bound ion (Ca2+), regardless of the base material itself. In order to confirm this hypothesis, two different adsorber materials namely, γ-alumina (a material, conventionally used for fluoride removal from water and wastewater) and Micro-silica (a mineral with small adsorption capacity for fluoride) were selected for further study. It was found that the...

Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites with Spherical Inhomogeneities

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Goudarzi, Taha (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The improved properties of nanocomposites are not achievable with conventional composites. Scale effect is one the most important parameters in the physical and mechanical properties of polymeric nanocomposites. One of the physical phenomena, which can be related to the scale effect, is the very large interface between the nanoparticles and the polymeric matrices. Motional behavior and conformation of polymeric chains change near the nanoparticles surfaces. Due to high interface of the nanoparticles with the polymeric matrices the amount of these types of changes in the polymeric chains are so large that can change the physical and mechanical properties of polymeric nanocomposites. In this...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Askari, Majid (Author) ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor) ; Akbari, Hmid (Supervisor) ; Khoobi Shourkaei, Mahdi (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, the use of mesoporous silica nanoparticles as carriers of biological agents has increased. The use of nanometer dimensions in intra-body applications not only hides the particles from the view of macrophages and the body's immune system, but also causes the particles to enter the cells more easily through endocytosis. Template removal method is the most common method in the synthesis of mesoporous silica. In this method, the orderly arrangement of pattern-forming molecules is used to form pores. Until now, various types of organic materials have been used as pattern materials. The main goal is the synthesis of nanoparticles with the largest size of holes and the largest...
