    Catalytic wet peroxide oxidation of phenol in a new two-impinging-jets reactor

    Abstract
    The catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO) of phenol with activated carbon (AC) as the catalyst has been successfully tested in a novel type of two-impinging-jets reactor (TIJR). The TIJR is characterized by a high-intensity reaction chamber, which is separated by a perforated plate from other parts of the reactor. The perforated plate was used as a filter to keep the catalyst particles within the reaction chamber. The influences of various operating and design parameters such as jet Reynolds number, feed flow rate, internozzle distance, and the jet diameter on the performance capability of the TIJR were investigated.     Abstract
    In this work, the synthesis and characterization of a new nanocomposite from carbon nanotubes-graft-polymer (CNTs-g-P) is reported. The products were obtained by the filling of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (inner diameter 2040 nm) with CoFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles, been grafted with poly (caprolactone). The filling process was carried out by using acid treatment through wet chemistry. The structure and the properties of the new nanocomposite were studied with TEM, VSM, TGA, and spectroscopic techniques. © 2009 World Scientific Publishing Company

    In this study, the effect of different parameters on the fluid transport in a fractured micromodel has been investigated. All experiments in this study have been conducted in a glass micromodel. Since the state of wetting is important in the micromodel, the wetting experiments have been conducted to determine the state of wetting in the micromodel. The used micromodel was wet by water and non-wet regarding normal decane. The fracture network, distribution of pore size, matrix construction, and injection rate are the most important parameters affecting the process.     Abstract
    CaO–La2O3 mixed oxides were synthesized by co-precipitation coupled with Li doping through wet impregnation. These were used as catalysts for transesterification of canola oil and methanol toward biodiesel production. To determine the structure and morphology of the prepared catalysts, they were characterized by the XRD, FESEM, BET, and basic strength measurements. Under optimum reaction conditions of methanol/oil molar ratio of 15:1, 5 wt% catalyst at 65 °C, 96.3% conversion was obtained in 2.5 h of reaction duration.
