Experimental Investigation on Heavy Metal Adsorption From Sanitary Landfill Leachate Using Clay Layer Containing Zeolite
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor) ; Vosoughi, Manoochehr (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Leachate migration from solid waste landfills into the subsurface environment is one of the significant problems of landfills. This can cause lots of problems for local soil and water to sources according to the contaminants appear in the leachate. Usually, landfill sites include at least one compact clay liner to prevent contamination of groundwater by produced leachate. Over the last decades investigators have been attracted to the structure and removal capacity of this liner. In this study, the effect of the addition of Zeolite to Kaolinite soil for the removal of heavy metal (manganese and zinc) from landfill leachate and the effect of decreasing the thickness of the soil layer has been...
Investigation of the Garbage Leachate Production Trend and the Cultural, Social, and Economic factors on the Kish Island
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abrishamchi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Garbage leachate which contains suspended and soluble pollutants is produced due to the decomposition of organic substances by microbial activities. Moreover, other sources of water such as surface runoff, rainfall, and groundwater – which in many cases may percolate through the garbage-, can intensify leachate production which in turn imposes considerable impacts on the main elements of the environment, such as water, soil, and air, and has health effects on human beings. Therefore, minimization of leachate production is an important issue in the solid waste management considering economic, social, cultural, and many other aspects. On Kish Island, despite the favorable climatological...
Design a System that is based on 2 to 5 MeV Electron Accelerator is used for Irradiation X Municipal Waste
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Otookesh, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Designing a system based on 2 to 5 MeV electron accelerators for X radiation of urban waste.Nowadays , the use of ionizing radiation in two cases of treatment and removal of contaminants in the waste including; 1) Pathological hospital waste 2) leachate from buried urban waste, which is studied and examined in this project. Buried urban wastes begin to break down under aerobic and anaerobic processes, and as long as the materials are not changed into sustainable materials, these processes will continue and results in landfill gas and leachate. Gas is produce due to anaerobic processes and leachate which is produced through water infiltration (atmospheric precipitation) in the landfill or...
