- Abstract:
- This paper presents a surface generation model for sculptured surface productions using the ball end milling process. Dimensional measurement using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) has been commonly adapted in advanced manufacturing environment to ensure that manufacturing products have high quality and reliability. To conduct dimensional inspection efficiency in a computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) environment, there is an urgent need to derive a sampling strategy which can be used to specify a set of measuring points that lead to accurate sampling while minimizing the sampling time and cost. Owing to the variations in characteristics of geometric feature and manufacturing process, different feature surface on a work piece usually have different variations in their dimensions accuracy and surface finish. Therefore the timing of inspection procedure in relation to the manufacturing process is also an important consideration. Efforts have been devoted to developing a rapid and accurate method for finishing for dimensional inspection. Though the inspection process, the dimensions of a workspace are checked against the design and manufacturing standards to ensure that the finished product is within the designated tolerance. There are many factors that are base of optimization process of sampling on measurement of sculptured surface such as curvature, error of surface and etc. We measure the sculptured surface based on maximum machining error, produced on the surface during milling process. Various factors affect machining error such as heat treatment, linear motion of ball end mill in CNC machining, vibrations as important factors to specify the patches of surface that have the maximum machining error. In this way we purpose extra sampling points in these patches that have extra machining error due to tool deflection
