  7. Abstract:
  8. Chemical flooding such as surfactant flooding in oil reservoirs can change the wettability and interfacial tension between oil and water and so reduce the residual oil saturation in the reservoir. Some of these materials can be adsorbed a lot on the surface of carbonate rocks, so it is difficult to predict the oil recovery factor in such process. Therefore it is necessary to survey the adsorption amount of surfactants in chemical EOR injections. In this thesis, the adsorption of a nonionic surfactant on the surface of carbonate rock is experimented and the proper model is obtained. Then the surfactant is injected in a core saturated with oil to observe the efficiency of this surfactant in the oil recovery improvement. The governing equations for three components of oil, water and surfactant and for two phase of oleic and aqueous is written and solved numerically. Surfactant adsorption effect which was obtained from the experiments is considered in the numerical model according to Langmuir equation. The proper values for relative permeability of water and oil and also for capillary pressure are obtained by matching the model results with the experimental result. The results show that adsorption of this surfactant on the surface of carbonate rocks fit in Langmuir model. The core flooding of this surfactant in a carbonate rock has a high oil recovery factor and finally the results of experiments have a good match with numerical model results. The results of this thesis can be noticed in developing the models and simulations of chemical EOR by considering the adsorption term
