- Application of special technologies is necessary for design and implementation of smart distribution systems. These technologies offer different facilities for users of distribution systems. One of the important goals of smart distribution systems is the improvement of reliability of local electricity services. This process requires information and data exchange between the smart devices and control center which applicable through communication infrastructure. If the communication infrastructure specified for automatic distribution faces to some problems, it is not possible to control the error because of absence of effective connection between the smart devices of network and control center, which may decrease the reliability of electricity services. One step to have a smart distribution system is designing and implementation of feeder automation to detect the error position, separate and restore. In the most of previous researches, the feeder automation reliability was evaluated by assumption of no error in communication infrastructure. In this thesis, first the various benefits of smart grids are examined, and then the influencing parameters on the grids are described. In the next step the feeder automation devices are introduced and the model of each element is explained. Then a general algorithm is proposed to evaluate the feeder automation reliability, and finally a simulation is applied on the model
