  7. Abstract:
  8. Optimization and uncertainty are two main issues in the structure design. In engineering problems and specially the structure, loads are among those issues witch we cannot be commented definitively. The uncertainty also shows itself in material properties and structural shapes. Design optimization is inevitable in order to use resources effectively. In the past, structural design was based on experience and engineering judgment, which was conservative and sometimes structure weight was very high. But today, thanks to computers, high-volume calculations would not be out of reach. With considering uncertainty, we can have prosper sight toward constraints by maintaining proper distance from the intended constraints. In this thesis, investigation and optimization of three-dimensional trusses, such as power transmission towers and cell towers, were studied. Such structures are designed mainly under wind load. Structure weight and failure probability of limit state function are respectively first and second objective function in the Multi-objective optimization. Unlike the single-objective optimization, multi-objective optimization provides a range of responses to the decision maker. Each of these answers has its own advantages that decision makers choose one of them according to their need, The study evaluated two examples from the perspective of decision-making has been reviewed and observed that structures with minimum weight does not necessarily optimal
