- Abstract:
- The purpose of the present study is to develope an optimal model for analysis the impact of implementing a heat recovery system in a cement production line. For this goal, the energy reference system of a cement plant has been prepared, mass and energy balance sheets of the cement factory with dry production method, the characteristics of two high-energy streams have been identified in order to estimate the potential of heat recovery. Regarding the temperature range of the main hot streams, an appropriate cycle for generating electrical power from the lost heat, the Rankine cycle with organic fluid (ORC) has been formulated. The main question in the present project was how to relate the recycling system to the cement production line, so that in addition to improving the environmental performance, It would also lead to the highest energy efficiency and optimal economic outcomes? With this approach, four variables have been identified, each of them is a key parameter in the design of the heat recovery system. To find optimal values, an optimization code has been developed and the optimal solution has been identified. The main results of the present research work can be summarized as follows: Implementation heat recovery system at a cement factory with a daily production of 3400 tons could produce up to 5,800 kilowatts of electrical power through an organic Rankine cycle. This amount of electricity generates approximately 30% of the electricity consumed by the plant and can reach about 139 billion rials of annual revenue for the plant. Saving more than 600,000 cubic meters of water and prevention of release 25,000 carbon dioxide per year as well as other benefits of this system. The initial capital required for this project is about $ 9 million, which, based on its revenues, had a return on capital of about 47 months and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 4% over the 5 years
