- Abstract:
- Since direct measurement of neutron energy, unlike measuring the energy of ionizing radiation, is difficult, and the use of indirect methods for detecting and measuring neutron energy with high resolution and acceptable efficiency are not possible, the neutron time of flight method is the only direct neutron energy spectroscopy method. This issue is considered and evaluated in two methods: direct and scattering neutron time of flight. For this purpose, we have considered the 241Am-9Be source. In this method, neutron velocity can be determined by measuring time. is the time for the neutron that travels at distance of . The next method is the dispersed neutron time of flight method, in which, the neutron generate a tap after collision with the first detector, dispersed and if it arrives at the second detector, which is located at a certain angle and distance from the first detector, produces another pulse. In this project, we intend to simulate the spectrum of 241Am-9Be neutron source with the development of MCNPX software using the direct time of flight method. Naturally, this software is not capable of time simulating and considering the component of time and one of our most important goals is augment a subroutine to add time simulation capabilities to the MCNPX. This expansion of code is new and a solution to many problems for users of this software. In this research, collision detection is performed using a PTRAC card and determining the collision time using this card. analysis the large output file of the PTRAC card is performed by using the RETRAC program written with FORTRAN software, and a review of all feasible cases in the direct direct time of flight method was also performed with Windows-based software written with the C# programming language
