- Abstract:
- Despite there are many publications and press on the benefits and costs of dams from a purely single-discipline perspective, but recent studies simultaneously assess biophysical, economic, and social issues as well as concepts related to political geography about dams. The purpose of this study is to model the benefits and costs of constructing a dam from a multi-field perspective. The Integrative Dam Assessment Modeling (IDAM) is designed to integrate biophysical, economic, social and political geography perspectives into a single cost-benefit analysis of dam construction. In particular, a new tool of integrative dam assessment model has been proposed to evaluate the costs and benefits associated with the construction of the Alavian dam located in the Urmia watershed, taking into account the biophysical, economic, social and political geography effects. The number of indices studied in all three items is the four main indices which itself includes sub-indices. First, with objective magnitudes, the numerical value of the sub-indices was obtained, and by considering the effect thresholds, these values have been classified into four categories: "no effect", "low effect", "moderate effect" and "high effect". Then the subjective valuation of each index is done by the specialist stakeholders of the project. Finally, the results were obtained in circular hatching diagrams and a visual and simple representation of the total costs and pure benefits of the Alavian Dam construction. The results of the analysis by deducting the total cost (30 units) of the total benefit (22units) show a pure benefit of 8 units in this model. In fact, in the study of the dam, it was found that positive effects of dam construction were more than its negative effects
