  7. Abstract:
  8. The purpose of this study is to provide a framework to demonstrate the organizational capabilities of chemical knowledge-based firms and analyze the relationship between these capabilities and exports. For this purpose, by combining 18 different output-based indicators, a model that includes six technological, manufacturing, research and development, marketing, organization and finance capabilities, was designed. Finally, in addition to analyzing the relationship between exports and the level of capabilities of knowledge-based firms, a comparison between the two groups of export and non-export firms and the analysis of these firms' current export situation was made in the period 2015-2018. Initially, by using and aggregating technical, financial, human resources and operational data, the framework designing for all 732 knowledge-based firms in the field of chemicals was implemented. In this research, the AHP method (for weighting the organizational capability indicators), the correlation analysis and regression method, (to analyze the relationship between different capabilities and exports), the dummy variable method, correlation, logistic regression and probit (to compare 90 export firms and 642 Non-exporting firms) and descriptive analysis method has been used (to analyze the current state of exports of firms). The results show that the six dimensions of capability have a positive effect on these firms' exports. Except for technological capability, export firms are in a better position in other capabilities. The most significant difference between the two categories is in the level of marketing capability. The results show that the export trend from 2015 to 2018 had been upward and since then until 2020 has been downward. Finally, while analyzing the existing export destinations (63 countries), it was found that 88.60% of the total exports of knowledge-based chemicals were to only ten countries (mainly neighboring countries), and Pakistan is the first export destination of Iranian knowledge-based chemicals. The present study results can be a basis for managers and policymakers' decision-making to upgrade the capabilities and improve these firms' competitiveness in the international environment
