- Abstract:
- Currently, one of the most important problems in the field of drilling is the issue of drilling fluid loss in different formations. The problem of mud loss has been evident since the beginning of oil and gas well drilling operations, so that oil companies spend millions of dollars annually to solve the problem of mud loss. Problems such as pipe jamming, loss of rig production time, well blowout, loss of a large volume of drilling mud and damage to reservoir formations due to loss of drilling fluid are caused. Regarding the drilling variables, many factors cause the decrease or increase of the loss, the most important of which are the weight on the drill bit, drilling speed, the rate of rotation of the drilling string, the flow entering the well, the weight of the drilling fluid, the compounds and additives of the drilling Fluid, and the rheological properties of the drilling fluid. Cited. According to its type and severity, there are different strategies to deal with and control drilling fluid loss, such as reducing the mud weight, improving and increasing the rheological properties of the drilling fluid, reducing the flow entering the well, placing cement plugs, and using fluid of lost circulation materials. In this thesis, it was tried to investigate the effect of compounds and additives used in mud on the rheological properties of drilling fluid for a well sample in the southwest of Khuzestan province. The result of this study was that the effective concentration of additives used in mud is inevitable and vital to control and improve the rheological properties of the drilling fluid as much as possible. On the other hand, the properties of the drilling fluid, specifically, the rheological properties of the drilling fluid are directly or indirectly related to most of the problems of drilling operations, including fluid loss dispersion, Therefore, by improving these properties as much as possible, which include plastic viscosity and yield point, we can control and even reduce the amount of loss in the drilling mud circulation system
