- Abstract:
- In the present study, the concentration of lithium in Iranian brines was investigated and studied using the electrodialysis method. First, the desired electrodialysis cell and unit were designed and fabricated. Then, by performing electrodialysis tests on three different samples of artificial brines with varying ion concentrations, the best and most suitable concentration for use in the process was determined. Then, in the two sections of experimental and designed experiments using Minitab software and the full factorial method, the concentration and separation of lithium ions from monovalent and divalent cations present in brines were examined. The results indicate that at medium voltages with a duration of 3 hours, the most effective separation of lithium from calcium and magnesium ions occurs, and at medium voltages with a shorter duration, the best separation of lithium from sodium and potassium cations occurs. Furthermore, with an increase in voltage and duration and a decrease in flow rate, the recovery of lithium ions increases. The optimal conditions for concentration and purification of lithium were obtained at a voltage of 8 volts, a duration of 3 hours, and a flow rate of 10 liters per hour. Finally, in order to extract the maximum possible lithium, the electrodialysis process was performed in multiple stages and the results were recorded. After three stages of electrodialysis under the determined conditions, over 67% of lithium ions were recovered
