Some improvements on the one-step inverse isogeometric analysis by proposing a multi-step inverse isogeometric methodology in sheet metal stamping processes

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 91 , March , 2021 , Pages 476-492 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Isazadeh, A. R ; Shamloofard, M ; Assempour, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Recently, isogeometric methodology has been successfully implemented in one-step inverse analysis of sheet metal stamping processes. However, these models are not capable of analyzing forming processes which require severe deformation and/or several forming stages. This paper presents a multi-step inverse isogeometric methodology to enhance the precision of one-step models in predictions of the initial blank, strain distributions, and drawability of the formed parts. This methodology deals with the minimization of potential energy, deformation theory of plasticity, and considering membrane elements. The presented methodology utilizes the NURBS basis functions to create the final, middle, and...

Eigenvectors of deformed Wigner random matrices

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Information Theory ; 18 November , 2020 Haddadi, F ; Amini, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2020
    Abstract
We investigate eigenvectors of rank-one deformations of random matrices B = A + θuu* in which A ∈ RN×N is a Wigner real symmetric random matrix, θ ∈ R+, and u is uniformly distributed on the unit sphere. It is well known that for θ > 1 the eigenvector associated with the largest eigenvalue of B closely estimates u asymptotically, while for θ < 1 the eigenvectors of B are uninformative about u. We examine O(1/N) correlation of eigenvectors with u before phase transition and show that eigenvectors with larger eigenvalue exhibit stronger alignment with deforming vector through an explicit inverse law 1/θ*-x with θ* := θ + 1/θ. This distribution function will be shown to be the ordinary...

Sound velocity in severely deformed aluminum alloys: AA1100 and AA2024

    , Article Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing ; Volume 126, Issue 4 , 2020 Yaghoubi, F ; Khani Moghanaki, S ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2020
    Abstract
The effects of severe plastic deformation on properties of AA1100 and AA2024 including the ultrasound velocity and the shear strength during multi-axial compression (MAC) are studied. Additionally, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy are utilized. For both AA1100 and AA2024, an opposite trend is reported in the shear strength and the sound velocity versus deformation strain of MAC. At high strain range, AA1100 and AA2024 samples reach a plateau in the strength due to the occurrence of dynamic recovery. On the other hand, the sound velocity is shown to decrease 11% and 15% for AA1100 and AA2024, respectively. Furthermore, the...

The effect of strain rate on multi-directional forged aluminum: examining the experimental data and modeling results

    , Article Materials Chemistry and Physics ; Volume 239 , 1 January , 2020 Khamsepour, P ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
In this study, multi-directional forging (MDF) as a severe plastic deformation method, annealing, and compression test at different strain rates are applied on pure aluminum. One of the main observations is when the number of MDF passes is increased, the hardness is risen. The most noticeable reduction in hardness occurs when the MDFed samples are annealed at 350 and 450 °C. Moreover, increasing the number of MDF passes and the strain rate of the compression test cause the increase in the yield stress of the samples. If the MDFed samples are non-annealed or if they are annealed at a maximum temperature of 250 °C, the effect of an increase in the number of passes on the yield stress is more...

    , Article Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A: Physical Metallurgy and Materials Science ; Volume 50, Issue 5 , 2019 , Pages 2371-2380 ; 10735623 (ISSN) Charkhesht, V ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer Boston  2019
    Abstract
To investigate the flow stress evolution in further straining of severely deformed Al sheets, a comprehensive model which considers both mechanical and metallurgical alterations is needed. In this study, constrained groove pressing (CGP) as a severe plastic deformation method, and a flat rolling process for further straining are utilized. Using basic mechanical models, strain and strain rate were calculated for this process. Dislocation density and flow stress evolutions were predicted by utilizing initial mechanical data, considering the ETMB (Y. Estrin, L. S. Toth, A. Molinari, and Y. Brechet) dislocation density model. Based on these model predictions, the combination of the CGP process...

Constrained groove pressing, cold-rolling, and post-deformation isothermal annealing: Consequences of their synergy on material behavior

    , Article Materials Chemistry and Physics ; Volume 206 , 2018 , Pages 85-93 ; 02540584 (ISSN) Pouraliakbar, H ; Jandaghi, M. R ; Heidarzadeh, A ; Jandaghi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2018
    Abstract
Stress-relieved Al-Mn-Si specimens were constrained groove pressed (CGPed) and in the following, cold-rolled under different strains of 0.47, 0.8 and 1.27. Dual strained sheets were isothermally heat treated at 150, 250, and 350 °C. Microstructure survey revealed that generated shear-bands by CGP acted as talent sites for further strain-induced grain boundary migration (SIGBM) during annealing. SEM micrographs pointed out that coarse particles (1 μm <) had not preferential positions within the aluminum matrix and often comminuted into fine dispersoids (0.5 μm >) under heavy strains. Assessment of the softening fraction (Rrec) depicted that greater accumulated strains along with higher...

Deformation behavior of severely deformed al and related mechanisms through warm tensile test

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 26, Issue 3 , 2017 , Pages 1311-1324 ; 10599495 (ISSN) Charkhesht, V ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer New York LLC  2017
    Abstract
Flow stress and ductility behaviors of the annealed and severely deformed Al were investigated at warm deformation temperatures. Constrained groove pressing (CGP) method as a severe plastic deformation process was used. The tensile test was carried out at the temperature range of the 298-573 K and strain rate range of 0.001-0.1 s−1 to present the elevated temperature deformation behavior utilizing hyperbolic sine constitutive equation. The flow stress of the CGPed sample is increased with the number of CGP passes and decreased with temperature. Dynamic recovery and strain softening are found as main restoration mechanisms. Flow stress amounts are not remarkably affected by the strain rate....

    , Article Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation ; Volume 77 , 2016 , Pages 50-53 ; 02632241 (ISSN) Pouraliakbar, H ; Pakbaz, M ; Firooz, S ; Jandaghi, M. R ; Khalaj, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier, B. V  2016
    Abstract
The dynamic and static softening phenomena in Al-6Mg alloy were studied through interrupted two-stage hot compression test performed isothermally at 480°C and strain rate range of 0.001-0.1 s-1. The interruptions of 29 and 90 s were considered when the true strain reached 0.5. It was concluded that the effect of static softening on the flow stress was not highlighted by extending the interruption at a constant strain rate. Also, it was exhibited that softening rate highly enhanced with the strain rate decrement at a constant time. Moreover, the static and dynamic recrystallization was revealed as the dominant softening mechanisms at low and high strain rates, respectively

    , Article Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A: Physical Metallurgy and Materials Science ; Volume 44, Issue 13 , December , 2013 , Pages 5853-5860 ; 10735623 (ISSN) Anjabin, N ; Taheri, A. K ; Kim, H. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
The current study proposes a simple constitutive model that integrates the kinetics of precipitation during static aging and the kinetics of precipitate dissolution during preheating to deformation temperature to predict the hot flow behavior of AA6063 alloy. The model relates the flow behavior of the age-hardenable alloy to the alloy chemistry, thermal history as well as deformation temperature, strain, and strain rate by means of a physically based model. Different aging conditions, including supersaturated solid solution and overaging conditions with different deformation parameters, were assessed. Each part of the model was in good agreement with those of experimental and other model...

    , Article International Journal of Computational Methods ; Volume 10, Issue 3 , 2013 ; 02198762 (ISSN) Narooei, K ; Taheri, A. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this research, a general solution of volume constancy differential equation is presented based on the equation of deformation field for a general process. As the Bezier method is suitable for construction of complex geometries, the solution is used in conjunction with the Bezier method to analyze the equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) process of rectangular cross section. Thus, a generalized kinematically admissible velocity field is derived from the equation of deformation zone such that the compatibility of the surface representing the deformation zone is fulfilled. The effects of die angle, friction between the billet and die wall, and the angle of outer curved corner, on extrusion...

By comparing FEM results with experimental data, the optimized geometrical parameters controlling the deformation behavior of the tube in tube channel pressing are determined to obtain the best strain homogeneity and minimum dimensional changes in tube

Microstructure generation of severely deformed materials using Voronoi diagram in Laguerre geometry: Full algorithm

    , Article Computational Materials Science ; Volume 50, Issue 9 , July , 2011 , Pages 2698-2705 ; 09270256 (ISSN) Jafari, R ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
A new Voronoi diagram in Laguerre geometry based on closed-pack non-overlapping circles was proposed. This diagram was used to simulate microstructure of severely deformed materials at different applied strains. Grains size and their fractions were introduced by controlling the size and distribution of nuclei. Edge number distribution and neighboring cells edge number along with area distribution of the simulated Voronoi cells were determined. The edge number distribution was observed to fit gamma distribution more accurately. However, due to high inhomogeneity in the microstructure of the deformed samples at low strains, edge number distribution could not be matched by any distribution...

Visco-hyperelastic constitutive law for modeling of foam's behavior

    , Article Materials and Design ; Volume 32, Issue 5 , 2011 , Pages 2940-2948 ; 02641275 (ISSN) Anani, Y ; Alizadeh, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
This paper proposes a new visco-hyperelastic constitutive law for modeling the finite-deformation strain rate-dependent behavior of foams as compressible elastomers. The proposed model is based on a phenomenological Zener model, which consists of a hyperelastic equilibrium spring and a Maxwell element parallel to it. The hyperelastic equilibrium spring describes the steady state response. The Maxwell element, which captures the rate-dependency behavior, consists of a nonlinear viscous damper connected in series to a hyperelastic intermediate spring. The nonlinear damper controls the rate-dependency of the Maxwell element. Some strain energy potential functions are proposed for the two...

    Abstract
Al6063 powder was subjected to severe plastic deformation via high-energy mechanical milling to prepare ultrafine-grained (UFG) aluminium alloy. Uniaxial compression test at various temperatures between 300 and 450 °C and strain rates between 0.01 and 1 s-1 was carried out to evaluate hot workability of the material. Microstructural studies were performed by EBSD and TEM. The average activation energy and strain rate sensitivity of the hot deformation process were determined to be 280 kJ mol-1 and 0.05, respectively. The deformation temperature and applied strain rate significantly affected the grain structure of UFG Al alloy. A finer grain structure was obtained at lower temperatures and...

Multiple stress creep and recovery and time sweep fatigue tests: Crumb rubber modified binder and mixture performance

    , Article Transportation Research Record ; Issue 2180 , 2010 , Pages 67-74 ; 03611981 (ISSN) Tabatabaee, N ; Tabatabaee, H. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Crumb rubber modification (CRM) is an effective means of improving neat asphalt performance. Numerous studies have investigated the effects of CRM using the current Superpave® laboratory tests. Recent studies have shown that the assumption of linear viscoelastic behavior or employing insufficient stress or strain levels makes current tests inadequate for properly assessing the performance of binders, especially when modified. This problem has resulted in the development of improved test methods such as the time sweep binder fatigue test and the multiple stress creep and recovery (MSCR) test for permanent deformation. The present study assesses the performance of binders modified with a wide...

Accumulative spin-bonding (ASB) as a novel SPD process for fabrication of nanostructured tubes

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 528, Issue 1 , November , 2010 , Pages 180-188 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Mohebbi, M. S ; Akbarzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
A novel SPD process for manufacturing of high strength tubes and cylinders by accumulative spin-bonding (ASB) is proposed. It is demonstrated that due to incremental deformation in this process, high strain rate without considerable temperature rise is achieved. This is accompanied with a high value of Zener-Hollomon parameter as a characteristic of this SPD process. ASB was applied to a commercially pure aluminum up to four cycles and its effects on the microstructure and mechanical properties were examined by optical microscopy, TEM, EBSD, microhardness and tension tests. The results show that ultra-fine grains are developed during the process by formation of subgrains at early stages...

    Abstract
In this study a severe plastic deformation method called constrained groove pressing (CGP) is used for imposing a high magnitude of strain into the low carbon steel sheets. Microstructural changes during process are examined by X-ray diffraction and optical observations. The grain size evolution during severe plastic deformation is studied using Williamson-Hall analysis on XRD pattern of the deformed samples. In effective strain of 4.64, ferrite grains with a submicron size of 200-300nm are achieved. The results show that constrained groove pressing can effectively refine the coarse-grained structure to an ultra fine grain range. Mechanical properties changes due to microstructure evolution...

Influence of stacking fault energy and short-range ordering on dynamic recovery and work hardening behavior of copper alloys

    , Article Scripta Materialia ; Volume 62, Issue 9 , May , 2010 , Pages 693-696 ; 13596462 (ISSN) Hamdi, F ; Asgari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
True stress vs. true strain responses of Cu-6 wt.% Al and Cu-12 wt.% Mn alloys are presented. While Cu-6 wt.% Al alloy shows the typical mechanical response of low stacking fault energy alloys, the Cu-12 wt.% Mn alloy behaved similarly to medium to high stacking fault energy alloys. These findings clearly show that while short-range ordering triggers slip planarity, it has a minor effect on total dynamic recovery of these copper alloys

Constitutive modeling of solids at finite deformation using a second-order stress-strain relation

    , Article International Journal of Engineering Science ; Volume 48, Issue 2 , 2010 , Pages 223-236 ; 00207225 (ISSN) Darijani, H ; Naghdabadi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In this paper, a deformation measure is introduced which leads to a class of strain measures in the Lagrangian and Eulerian descriptions. In order to develop a constitutive equation, a second-order constitutive relation based on these strain measures is considered for modeling the mechanical behavior of solids at finite deformation. For this purpose and performance evaluation of the proposed strains, a Hookean-type constitutive equation is considered and the uniaxial loading as well as simple shear and pure shear tests are examined. It is shown that the constitutive modeling based on the proposed strains give results which are in good agreement with the experimental data
