, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahmoodi, Marjan (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Immediate control of pandemic influenza to avoid casualties and financial losses is an important issue. In this thesis, two types of controllers including optimal controller and adaptive generalized predictive controller based on linear input-output model, with vaccine, treatment and quarantine being controlling variables, have been used to control influenza. Each controlling methods were investigated for different states including single-input single-output and multi-input single-output. Single-input single-output and multi-input single-output models are identified as online and offline using least squares method. Since it is difficult to exactly identify the model parameters, especially at...

Proposing a Control Method for Malaria

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezanezhad Derazkola, Hadi (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In every year malaria has enormous fatality around the world, so this disease has to be controlled. In this thesis based on a model given in the literature[12], a model predictive controller has been designed and its performance has been compared with that of the optimal control. The simulation results show that in the case of model mismatch, the performance of model predictive control is superior. In model selection, it has been tried that a comprehensive model that has enough inputs for control to be selected. A linear time varying model is used to simulate the nonlinear behavior of the nonlinear system. The Least Squares method is used to update the model parameters

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talkhoncheh, Mahdi Khajeh (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project design of adaptive neural network controller for uncertain nonlinear systems in the presence of different restrictions has been investigated. After providing introduction and motivation, two general forms of nonlinear systems including strict- feedback and pure- feedback have been introduced. In order to solve the problem caused by each restriction, a solution has been proposed. For the strict- feedback nonlinear systems several restrictions are considered such as, unknown dynamic model, unmeasured state, input saturation, unknown control directions, time delays in states and input. Stability analysis based on the Lyapunov theorem has been established. In addition, two kinds...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Askari, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most of dynamical models in the real world, have various restrictions and complexities in their structures. These constraints make the controller design much more difficult. In this work, it has been tried to design the controller for two kinds of common dynamical systems in the presence of these restriction by using the fuzzy logic systems. Several restrictions are investigated in this project such as unknown dynamic of the model, unmeasured state variables, unknown control directions, existence of time delay in the input and the state variables, input saturation and controller singularity. The backstepping technique and the dynamic surfaces control approach have been used to design the...

Investigation and Comparison of Anesthesia Control Algorithms

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sammaknejad, Nima (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Anesthesia control during surgeries has been greatly considered in recent years. In this thesis nonlinear and linear control algorithems are implemented to control the human anesthesia system. First, non-adaptive linear model predictive algorithem is tested. Since the model parameters change from one person to another, adaptive algorithms seem more suitable for the system. Therfore, adaptive linear predictive control is implemented in the next step, and it shows a better performance. According to the system nonlinearities, non-adaptive nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) based on the state-space model is also applied to the system and it has a better performance index. The main problem...

Performance Evaluation of Adaptive PID Controllers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taghizadeh, Saeed (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The PID controller has been widely used in the industry for many years because of its simple structure and satisfactory performance. If the process is time-varying or has a nonlinear dynamic, the PID controller with constant parameters can not control the process in a wide range of operation and adaptive PID controller should be used. In this thesis, two adaptive controllers proposed in the literature, one for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) affine nonlinear systems and another for single-input single-output (SISO) non-affine nonlinear systems both in the normal form that both of them are extended in to the general form. The latter extended controller includes the MIMO systems. The main...

Stability Analysis of Different Control Strategies in the Presence of Nonlinear Dynamic of Final Control Element

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fadaie Tehrani, Ekram (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Final control elements usually have nonlinear dynamics which affect the stability of the closed- loop system. Four most common types of these nonlinearities are dead-zone, backlash, hysteresis and saturation. Because most of final control elements especially in chemical processes are subjected to saturation constraint and also due to lack of generaland practical control scheme to handle this limitation, our concentration will be focused on saturation nonlinearity. In this work, based on sliding mode control strategy, a control scheme for multi-input multi-state systems in the presence of input saturation is presented. Some numerical simulations are carried out to show the effectiveness of...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Baghmisheh, Gholmarez (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Bozorgmehri, Ramin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work steady state and dynamic performances of quaternary distillation column sequences designed based on steady state and dynamic cost functions have been investigated. To quantify the dynamic performance, product loss due to disturbances has been considered in the objective function. In addition, variations of operating costs such as utilities have been considered in the objective function. To separate a quaternary mixture into four products, twenty two configurations have been used. It has been observed that the feed composition, disturbance frequency and magnitude affect the dynamic behavior strongly. To decrease the optimization computational load, a scheme that provides a...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babaei Pourkargar, Davood (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Chaotic behavior takes place in different physical systems such as chemical reactors. In this thesis, dynamical behavior of chemical reactors in which polymerization or series reactions take place has been considered. It has been shown that these reactors have chaotic dynamics under special condition. Two reactors of the second type (with series reactions) for cases of known and unknown parameters have been synchronized by a control method and stability of the proposed scheme has been established by the Lyapunov stability theorem. Simulation results show the effectiveness of proposed method. Since concentration measurement is difficult and expensive, an observer has been used for...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghoreishi Mohammadi, Aref (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Because of lower energy consumption and lower capital cost, divided wall columns attracted wide attention. The main challenge of these units is their controllability. In this thesis dynamic simulation and control of a divided wall column is investigated and an adaptive model predictive controller has been used for control purpose. For dynamic simulation the Aspen Dynamics software and for applying control strategy the MATLAB software have been utilized. The model used for model predictive controller has been obtained by using open loop responses of the system. The main advantage of presented work over the existing ones is using the input-output transfer function of the system model instead...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hajizadeh, Iman (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This project presents appropriate strategies for HIV infection treatment. In order to close the presented strategy to real treatment regimen, appropriate parameters are selected for the HIV infection model, real outputs are considered for the system, and three widely used drugs (one PI: ritonavir (RDV), two RTIs: lamivudine (3TC) and zidovudine (ZDV)) are used to design a drug regimen. A Luenberger-like nonlinear observer (LNO) is also designed for estimation of unmeasurable states. In order to minimize the side effects of drug regimen, the concentration of ZDV is fixed at a minimum value at all time because this drug has a greater side effects than other drugs and the parameters of...
