Design for Fabrication of a Knee Prosthesis Wear Simulator

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tahsili Seghale, Alireza (Author) ; Durali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Total knee replacement surgery is the most common joint replacement in the world. Considering the increasing rate of this procedure and costs and difficulties of the repeated operation, many efforts have been made to improve the performance and lifetime of implants. The Polyethylene component of the implant is the most prone component to fail due to wear. To evaluate new knee prosthesis designs, it is necessary to have a wear test simulator. Objective of this project is to detail design a knee prosthesis wear simulator according to ISO 14243 in order to investigate the performance of prosthesises in long term and under in-vivo conditions. During this project, studies have been made to get...

Modeling and Laboratory Evaluation of Rheological Properties of Water based Mud for Horizontal Extended Reach Well

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Latifi Shirdar, Babak (Author) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Ghazanfari, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor) ; Tahmasbi Nowtarki, Koroush (Co-Supervisor) ; Kalhor, Mojtaba (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important challenges in drilling horizontal and directional wells is the optimization of hydraulics and hole cleaning and ECD management. In these wells, poor hole cleaning can lead to formation of cutting bed on the low side of the annulus and cause problems such as stuck pipe or increase in torque and drag. Also poor hydraulic design can lead to decrease in rate of penetration and thus, increase in costs. Mud weight should be placed inside the range of mud window (more than pore pressure and less than formation fracture pressure) in order to prevent kick of reservoir fluid or mud loss.In this thesis, the main goal is to optimize hydraulics and hole cleaning and manage ECD...

Identification Dynamic Modeling and Analysis of a Variable Displacement Axial Piston Pump

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pooyafar, Payam (Author) ; Salarieh, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to high nominal pressure and controllable flow, variable displacement axial piston pumps are used widely in hydraulic industry. However, there still exist many problems and limitations in the areas of design, controllers and performance. To solve the problems without wasting time and money in making prototypes, an accurate dynamic model of the pump is required which predicts pump behavior under various control signals and loads. The lack of simple and practical methods of measuring describing parameters of pump dynamics, makes investigation and verification of such a model very challenging. In this thesis, literature review is presented in a wide range. After investigating of...

Hydraulic and Sediment Simulation of effect of structures On Urban Rivers In HEC-RAS (Case study :Kan River)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abhari Rasht Abadi, Maryam (Author) ; Agha Mohammad Hossein Tajrishi, Massoud (Supervisor) ; Torabi, Oveis ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
    Abstract
Construction of some structures including parks, bridges and leading walls conducted on the rivers in urbanization leads to the change in the form of the rivers and consequently the change in the hydraulic. The response of river to these changes which are in the form of changes in morphologic features seems to pose some threats such as flood, damage to the buildings located on the route, weakening the bridge of highways and aggradation and degradation of the ecosystem. Kan river, one of the biggest urban rivers in the mega city of tehran, has had some changes such as resort purposes, canalization, the change of slip and roughness and intersection with different bridges during recent...

Underbalanced Drilling Hydraulics Modeling and Optimization

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Mehdi (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Due to the underbalanced drilling advantages compared to the overbalanced drilling, this drilling method usage is on rise day to day. In this method, the well pressure has to be lower than formation pressure. To achieve this goal, we have to use light fluids such as air, foam, aerated mud, etc. Because of the compressible nature of these fluids, their hydraulics calculation is more complicated than overbalanced drilling fluids. Due to this complexity, a simulator which can predict and optimize the well conditions is very important in designing drilling schedule. In this thesis, by combination of different rheology and pressure drop equations for the foam, a simulator is developed to model...
