Tribological and Corrosion Properties of Ni-SiC (FGM) Coatings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Daneshpour, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ni-SiC nanocomposite coatings are considered as corrosion resistant coatings with better tribological properties. In order to get superior properties, the amount of added particles should be increased. But high concentration of particles has some drawbacks such as low adhesion to substrate, probability of cracking in coating due to heat expansion coefficient difference between substrate and coating and also embrittlement of coating and low elasticity. In this study, the possibility of producing Ni-SiC nanocomposite coatings with FGM structure was investigated. SiC particles concentration was 5 to 80 g/l and the current density was between 3 to 5 A/dm¬2. The pH of bath and temperature was...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghorbanpour, Arian (Author) ; Baghalha, Morteza (Supervisor) ; Kazemeini, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project, nonocrystalline nickel coatings with grain sizes within the range of 9-27 nanometers were produced on yellow-brass plates by electroplating in a modified Watts bath applying current densities from 2 to 6 A/dm2 and bath stirring speeds from 0 to 400 rpm. To determine crystallite size, X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) was utilized; it was observed that grain size declined continuously with increase in current density and then in bath stirring speed. The experimental results coming from XRD tests were compared with a theoretical model in order to verify their reliability; the obtained curve indicated a good correspondence between the experimental data and the theoretical...

Electrodeposition of Ag-Pd Alloy for Enhancing Corrosion Resistance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yari, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Silver is a resistant metal against the oxidation under normal atmospheric conditions, but it reacts readily with sulfur bearing species in the environment and corrodes. Alloying silver with more noble elements, such as Palladium, is a promising approach for increasing corrosion resistance against the sulfur pollutants. The purpose of this research is to develop a plating bath for deposition of Silver-Palladium alloy with acceptable appearance and higher corrosion resistance than pure silver. For this purpose, a bath based on thiosulfate complexing agent was investigated. In this solution, with a bath containing 10 mM of each cation, deposits with palladium content of 6, 11 and 14 % were...

Evaluation of Shear Stress at the Interface of Asphalt Layers Using Finite Element Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amjadyan, Yousef (Author) ; Tabatabaee, Nader (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Tack coat is a layer of asphaltic materials, which is used for binding the surface layer to the current asphalt layer. The appropriate interlayer bonding condition will help different layers form a monolithic structure to resist traffic. The lack of proper interlayer bonding result in slippage between pavement layers, decrease the capability for transferring the load to the underlying layers, rutting, crescent cracking and decreasing the life of the Overlay. This study intends to model a pavement system in three dimensions with ABAQUS software in order to evaluate the amount of shear stress at the interface of asphalt layers. In order to prove the validity of the model, the results of the...
