    Abstract
This paper proposes a new energy management model for residential buildings to handle the uncertainties of demand and on-site PV generation. For this purpose, the building energy management system (BEMS) organizes a transactive energy (TE) market among plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) to determine their charge/discharge scheduling. According to the proposed TE framework, the PEV owners get reimbursed by the BEMS for the flexibility they offer. In this regard, the PEV owners submit their response curves for reimbursement upon arrival. Then, the BEMS solves an optimization problem to maximize its own profit and determine the real-time TE market-clearing price. Afterward, based on the clearing...

Microgrid Energy Management with Optimal Operation of Electric Vehicles Parkinglots Considering Technical and Social Aspect

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Helmzadeh, Shahrdad (Author) ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The presence of electric vehicle (EV) parking in distribution or microgrids can become a challenging issue for the power grid. If parking operators charge EVs parked in their parking facilities without coordination with the distribution or microgrid operator, they can impose a heavy burden on the grid, resulting in increased costs and problems in the power network. This study aims to address energy management in EV parking facilities in the distribution network by proposing a two-level model. In this two-level model, the high-level problem is the distribution network, and the low-level problem is the parking facility. At the high-level, the distribution network operator tries to maximize...

Policy Instruments for the Improvement of Customers’ Willingness to Purchase Electric Vehicles: A Case Study in Iran

    , Article Energies ; Volume 15, Issue 12 , 2022 ; 19961073 (ISSN) Allahmoradi, E ; Mirzamohammadi, S ; Naeini, A. B ; Maleki, A ; Mobayen, S ; Skruch, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Given the various advantages of electric vehicles compared to conventional gasoline vehicles in terms of energy efficiency and environmental pollution (among others), this paper studies the factors affecting customers’ willingness to purchase electric vehicles. An integrated discrete choice and agent-based approach is applied to model the customers’ choice for the valuation of electric vehicles based on the internal reference price. The agent-based model evaluates customers’ preferences for a number of personal and vehicle attributes, according to which vehicle they chose. Data from 376 respondents are collected to estimate a random-parameter logit model where customers are asked to reveal...

    , Article Sustainable Energy, Grids and Networks ; Volume 32 , 2022 ; 23524677 (ISSN) Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Dehghanian, P ; Davoudi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Proliferation of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and integration of various distributed generation (DG) technologies have been recognized to play an undeniable role in modern power systems of the future. In order to effectively model the interactions of these two technologies, this paper develops a multi-criteria framework to coordinate the charging behaviors of PHEVs within an energy hub platform. In this regard, the desirable charging profiles from the viewpoint of both PHEV owners and hub manager are first captured and reported to the PHEVs Coordinator Entity (PCE). The PCE, then, runs an optimization framework in which several criteria including the PHEV owners’ convenience,...

    Abstract
Waves encountering can cause significant ship motions and affect the photovoltaic power generation capacity in All-Electric Ships (AES) during extreme conditions. In this paper, a comprehensive strategy is proposed to examine the impact of modern vessels' movements on the PV system output and the ship power quality during various operating scenarios. The proposed theoretical model-based technique determines ship angles in a wave collision and assesses sun-related angles concerning the vessel motions. Based on the panel angles, the solar irradiance and the PV system power variations can be derived. The developed method can simultaneously evaluate the effect of ship motions on the photovoltaic...

    Abstract
This paper compares the dynamic and static models of a Lithium-ion battery pack with its electrochemical model as energy storage of an electric vehicle according to the environmental protection agency drive cycles. The dynamic model or the RC equivalent circuit includes a voltage source and double parallel resistor and capacitor networks which are connected in series. The static model includes a voltage source and resistors. Given drive cycles, these models are compared in terms of the battery voltage, state-of-charge, and power loss in an electric vehicle in MapleSim software. Although the state-of-charge and power loss of both models are identical to each other, actually the terminal...

Flexibility pricing of integrated unit of electric spring and EVs parking in microgrids

    , Article Energy ; Volume 239 , 2022 ; 03605442 (ISSN) Norouzi, M ; Aghaei, J ; Pirouzi, S ; Niknam, T ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Electric spring (ES) as a breakthrough in power electronics has led to a revolution in demand-side management. This paper presents flexible power management (FPM) of a networked microgrid (MG) in the presence of renewable energy sources (RESs) and flexibility sources (FSs). The FSs include the novel topology of the integrated unit of ES with electric vehicles (EVs) parking (IUEE) and incentive-based demand response program (DRP). The proposed FPM model is formulated as an optimization problem that minimizes the difference between the expected energy cost and the expected profit of FSs' flexibility subject to the AC optimal power flow (AC-OPF), RESs, FSs, and MG flexibility constraints. In...

    Abstract
The growing utilization rate of electric vehicles (EVs) because of their advantages, like environmental pollutant reduction, may bring challenges to power systems for the reason of considerable charging load and random nature of their net load consumption. However, aggregation and coordination of EVs (especially EVs with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability) offer new opportunities to grid operators by providing the possibility of charging/discharging cycle control of their batteries. On the other hand, energy storage systems (ESSs) are one of the most applicable distributed energy resources (DERs) with growing penetration level in the last decades. The optimal coordination and schedule of ESSs,...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Moeini Aghtaie, Moein (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Ali (Supervisor) ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Large penetration of electric vehicles and distributed generation (DG) resources in upcoming years will change the future vision of distribution networks from some passive load points into active ones. The imposed load of electric vehicles charging has caused many new challenges in operation and planning studies of distribution network. In contrast, the abilities of electric vehicles in feeding back power into the network (V2G programs) has attracted attention from grid operators and also vehicles owners. So, the problem of managing charging and discharging behaviors of electric vehicles has been introduced as a hot research topic in recent year. This dissertation as the first effort in this...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghi Nejad, Emad (Author) ; Parniani, Mostafa (Supervisor) ; Askarian Abyaneh, Iman (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The integrated battery charger (IBC), made from the combination of a battery charger and the traction propulsion system of EVs is an emerging concept that can save the volume and final cost of battery chargers. As a type of on-board EV battery charger, IBC topology must work with expected performance in two modes of operation separately, charging mode and propulsion mode. In this thesis, to propose new topologies of IBCs, firstly the previous studies relevant to EV battery chargers and their different types have been reviewed. By analysis and investigation of IBC topologies, the principles of integrating battery chargers have been inferred and presented. These principles help us to evaluate...
